There is a restaurant 2 doors down from my work. I leave early a couple times a week.

I almost always get the same thing so I know what it's going to cost. Today was different.

Ordered 2 hard boiled eggs like I usually do.

They now charge $2.00 per egg PLUS another $2.00 per egg if you want them hard boiled

$8.00 for 2 eggs.... I declined eggs today.

Was at Aldi on Saturday; $5.67 for a dozen of the cheapest, house-brand eggs. The kind that I have to go through 5-6 cartons to find passable eggs, and even at that, it looks like the chickens put up a fight to keep the eggs.

I just bought farm fresh eggs yesterday, locally from a lady.
$4 per dozen delivered to my house. Your choice of washed or unwashed.

She did not cook them though like a restaurant.

The US government said buy/raise your own chickens.
I recall that that statement came from a brain-dead, out-of-touch politician who hasn't seen a live chicken since their 2nd-grade field trip to a petting zoo, certainly not from the USDA or an agency that knows something about chickens or eggs.

Same here....

Kroger and Walmart are $6/dozen.

Seems like every third neighbor of mine has hens. There is usually, a Milk box or cooler in the yard near the road and an honor system change box. Three bucks a dozen typically. Haven't looked lately at price. How cheap should this specialty protein source be? This ain't 1966. I am not a big egg eater, though I do enjoy a Belgian waffle or French Toast at a breakfast joint. Wife doesn't like to eat out anymore :(

When i head off to the grocery store today I'll take a gander at the prices posted for free range neighborhood eggs.

Got Eggland's best X Large for $5.39 on Friday from Dillons, a Kroger affiliate. Cheaper eggs were sold out. Kroger brand and Walmart eggs were all more expensive at around $6. I haven't eaten breakfast at restaurant, but 50 cents per egg seems to be a common surcharge around here, with Waffle House leading the pack.

At $5 a dozen, or even more, eggs are still an inexpensive source of healthy protein. They have many health benefits.
I was surprised to read - just now actually - that eggs are only 12% protein and you would have to eat eight or nine med eggs to reach the MDR protein for adult. Of course you wont be looking to receive your MRD all from eggs.
I thought they would be more protein rich than cottage cheese.

The egg producers have been trying to claim "shortages" to jack up egg prices for the past 3 years. Looks as though they finally succeeded. I'm seeing the same things you are: plenty of stock in grocery stores, prices around $6/dozen. Reminds me of the lumber "shortages" that jacked up prices in 2021.
