Hi all,

I check the transmission fluid for my Deville 76 and I noticed that it is lower than "add" point. Thus, I went to local part store and I asked him to give me Dexron || which the manual recommend, the salesperson give me Dexron V| and he said this exceed the Dexron || fluid. So, I put 1 liter of V| in the tranny and I drive the car for a while then I rechecked after switch to all gears back and forth. When I pull the dipstick and it seems slightly over the full point.

The question now, is it OK to have little over full?
and how much over consider to be overfilled?

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated

Slightly over the full mark won't be an issue for you. I wouldn't worry about it, even if your transmission is almost 40 years old.

That's what I think. But I think the case will be different in other tranny??

I think it is within the range of 5-8 oz

Check it in park, running on a level surface after driving an hour. 5-8 ounces...no issue.

Somebody wanted to make some money....DexIII/Mercon would have been sufficient without going to synthetic DexVI... Next that parts store will be selling you Dexos1 oil for it.

Or he's doing you a favor if the dex3 bottle costs say $5 and the dexVI bottle costs $6, and the OP only needs 1 bottle.
Sheesh, I don't think the clerk is trying to be the next bernie madoff at this rate.
Focus your outrage on something useful.

I bet he has Dexron || but he simply gave me Dexron V| because it is "new and sounds the best"

DexronVI is the correct fluid to supersede DexronII and DexronIII. Dex/Merc fluids vary wildly in quality, while a licensed DexronVI will have strong consistency in performance.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you are more than half the size of the cross hatched area over the full mark.

you have the turbo 400 trans in there keep it full if you dont it will be destroyed. I have great luck with max life dexron 3
i use it my 1970 convertible my two 79 cadillac's and my 89 Brougham also my 95 seville and they all have high mileage except for the convertible and seville i also use it in my jeep cherokee and my son also uses it in his beater car... All ok
