I'm wondering how many miles I should go between oil changes if I use dino oil only (along with an AC Delco Ultraguard Gold filter). Thoughts or suggestions?

Depends on how you drive. How many miles you put on a year...what kinda miles are they, ie mostly highway, mostly city...LOTS OF FACTORS to consider. Or just go with 3k if you don't wanna dissect it.

Most modern top tier dino oils under normal driving conditions will give you 5000 miles unless you drive a car that is hard on oil or you have unusual driving habits.

Good questions. Here are the answers:

1. 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme 3.1L (176,000).

2. 1999 Chevy Suburban 5.7L (102,000).

3. Castrol GTX.

4. Pretty even split between city and highway driving.

With your outfits I'd do 5k miles or 6 months whichever comes up first using GTX.

Change the oil filter everytime.

I'm not planning on changing the oil in my 92 Accord with a Carquest premium filter until at least 5000 miles. I've got QS 5w30 winter synthetic blend. The car leaks and burns a fair bit of oil so I suppose in effect I could just change the filter since I go through so much oil, I've actually lost count how many quarts I've put in it.

Go by time, my man. If you manage to wrack-up a lot of miles in say, 3-4-6 months, that means you are doing enough highway miles to clean the oil and engine. If not many miles are driven, then you need a change to get cruddy oil from short trips out. Time intervals allows you to adjust oil for climate changes, like 10w-40 for summer and 5w30 for winter. You can do it at your convenience, like before or ON holidays or state inspection. Time.

Just my 0.02

I don't know about strightly go by time. I drive 60k miles a year and I don't think Dino can last me 3 month 15k miles. I would say 7.5k max under any kind of condition for Dino as manufacture suggest.

60k is quite unusual. Unless you have a garage, changing is the cold is unpleasant. Most people here would go as far as possible between changes. I drive 22k a year and would dread 7 changes, so I use synth. I guess you have to figure it out for yourself, my experience is not much help. 1000 miles a week sounds like Mobil 1 EP to me.
