How many miles can I go?

I have an 03 CRV that I bought brand new with a steady diet of synthetic oil. I'be used every major brand of synthetic oil that WalMart carries that is on sale.

I've changed a lot of components on it, some due to wear and others just because I thought it was time (water pump, serpentine belt, alternaotr, starter, struts I bought, what I thought, are the best aftermarket or OEM parts and it's been running great for 147,000 miles. With today's oils as great as they are, I have not had any engine problems and had the valve cover off to adjust the valves at about 135,000 miles. The head and cam were very clean. I believe at 100,000 miles the engine is broken in, at 200,000 miles I got my money's worth, and at 300,000 miles I'm on borrowed time. With today's modern synthetic oil formulations, should I expect more.

Sounds like you have done as best as can be done for the engine.

What have you done for the transmission and other drive train units?

Consider a Magnefine filter for the auto trans.

I don't think it is possible to wear out an engine with miles anymore before the rest of the car is junk.

Provided you changed the oil regularly with the right oil.

Were the valves off at all?

At this point on your CRV, I'd do 8,000 mile OCIs with a good quality synthetic and follow up on all other maintenance items.

Very good point. Us bitogers have the best running engines in the junkyards. The motors run fantastic but the bodies are rusted in half or are totalled

The transmission already has an in-line filter at the top of the case.

The K24 calls for 10k intervals under most normal conditions. If your conditions fit the criteria, then there's no reason why you cannot go the full interval.

The transmission was replaced under warranty at 35,000 miles due to a torque converter whine. I replaced the transmission fluid in the new transmission with Mobil 1 ATF and do a 3 times drain and fill every 40,000 miles. The Magnefine transmission filter is a great idea. I will look into it. Thanks

Agreed, but I think you could stop at simply change the oil regularly. Within reason of course.

I doubt reving the engine in the red's often such as accelerating harshly in traffic wont do damage over time , regardless of engine , or oil.

Once you have moving parts rotating super fast there isnt a darn thing that can stop small wear between parts.

thats my 2 cents.

Sounds to me like you're on track to 200K + miles

Yeah, I would echo what the others have said. I think the engine isnt what needs to be worried about. Moresothe transmission and other things that will go. Sounds like ur taking care of the transmission. You should be able to go far!

Where in CA? I have to wonder if rust won't be a problem, if you are south enough.

Nor Cal. No rust or rough weather whatsoever.

I researched the Magnefine filter and it sure looks like cheap insurance.

Thanks for the replies.

If your trans has a spin on filter like The Critic says, then just put a magnet on it and change it once in awhile. You should be able to get 500K the way you are going.

IS this overboard?

It seems a simple exchange would do.

I'd think so...
