On my new 04 5.3L engine I changed oil at 900 miles and there was some sludge or whatever on the magnetic oil drain plug. I put in Pennzoil 5w30 and will drive another 2000 miles before draining and refilling. But, should I fill with GC 0w30 then or should I fill with dino again and run another two-three thousand miles before switching to GC syn?
How many miles before switching to syn?

I will be ok to put the synthetic oil in at your next OCI.

Redline Oil Recommends waiting until 2000-3000 mile mark, sounds reasonable to me coming from a synthetic oil producer. So you should be good to go.
