How many have switched to solar?

It turns out the 30-year shingles on the house are 15 years-old. Maybe solar shingles will be a reasonably-priced thing by the time the roof needs replacing!

I was thinking along those lines, too. They definitely LOOK appealing compared to the panels.

Personally, I think that Powerwall is the least useful of a wide range of options for energy storage.

(If you were here, you can get Redback, which is smart, controls things in your house, and controls the time of any export with smart meters and your utility so that you can get the best ROI, by helping with the peak, making sure that your charging and usage better match your family cycle).

That being said...what I'd do if I was going solar (am contemplating it, as my employer sells the Redback, about $9k for 3.5/3.5...KW of panels and storage).

Instead of a Tesla, try storing the energy in the form it's closest to being used, and charging it while you are at work.

I'd go for IceBear HVAC, which can store the energy produced as Ice while everyone is at work, and then only use 350-500W during peak when you get home...don't export the electricity.

I'd put in a reverse cycle heat pump hot water storage unit...

for storage and still have half a powerwall in change over electrical storage.

In Oz, the round trip cost of a powerwall per kWh of "free" electricity is 21c.

There's better solutions popping up here...
