Without doing UOA's ? 07 Accord, 88,000 miles, ive owned it since 44,000 miles. its always had syn, always been changed around 5-6,000 miles. now im getting lazier and considering letting it go longer but i have no interest in starting to pump $$ into test's So im thinking that 7,500 miles seems like a nice long OCI and within a fairly safe range without testing.

your thoughts ?

its had Mobil 1 PP PU Valvoline syn (all 5-20's) over the past 3 years of ownership with either Napa Gold or Pure 1'S and i plan to continue this (whatevers on sale Syn) routine.

Pick a synthetic, pick a long-distance oil filter (Purolator Synthetic?). Do the factory recommended 7500 miles. Get a UOA, see if you can go longer.

iffy to do without tests, I sent my first test off as our Prius is nearing 160k. I can get the tests at Napa for around $15 with tax and that includes lab work with TBN. Costs $2.61 to mail from my part of the country.

If you want to avoid tests altogether I would just say pick a good synthetic like Mobil 1 or SynPower and change it often, every 6k or so.

and thats what i have been doing.. 5,000 to 6,000 with good syns.. im wanting others thoughts on how long youd run OCI's without testing and still feel comfortable with it..

60% highway, 40% in town and with my driving habbits its probably going to get changed once a year (i know the math doesnt add up) this was my wifes DD, now its my DD and i will put less miles on it.

Oil and filters are cheap. Engines are not. I wouldn't go any further than your current OCI.

with 5,800 miles on this OCI the MM is indicating 15% (and thats suppose to be with conventional) if memory serves.. no way id run Conventional out that long but im fairly sure thats what the books saying.. (dont quote me)

Me personally, I'd feel just fine running that regimen (good syn, good filter, 1 yr. 7500 miles) on your car/usage. And I come from the 3K yr crowd (in the past).

How long does it take you to rack up 7500 miles? Again.. all depends.. If you do 7500 miles in 6 months or so than i think syn oil and a good filter should be fine for 7500 mile intervals. Personally I would rather run conventional oil and change it more often. But i would change oil minimum twice a year.

Follow the MM down to 0% since your running a full syn. Change the pcv valve with a a new oem version. The internal spring usually breaks around 60k miles.

I had an I4 2003 Accord where I did around 8k miles OCI with mostly 5w20 PP. I had great UOAs. So you should not have problems with 7.5k miles with PP. I'm assuming you have an I4 engine and don't do a lot of stop and go with cold starts. A link to my UOAs is in my sig.

PS
My 2003 did not have a MM based on driving conditions. You do so trust your MM

I'd go 7k comfortably, but not much longer. Especially if you're doing mixed driving. At least change it every 6-8 months.

If you want my honest, honest, "if I were in your shoes" answer, I'd say I'd feel the most comfortable with Valvoline Max Life (the synthetic blend) every 5k. That stuff power cleans your engine and is not too expensive.

For laziness and safety, I would do as follows(which happens to agree with the manual):
1)Run the MM to 0%
2)Run the filter for 2 OCI, as per manual (I used Pureone 14610 to make myself more comfortable - I know not extended filter, but the manual says to run any old filter for 2 oci...)
3)Use a mityvac.

#2 and #3 makes for time minimizing time under the car. #1 & 2 follow the manual. I like Pennzoil, but any syn would be worth my money when compared to paying the same for a conventional change from a commercial location.

thanks for all the input, the engine is the 3.0 6 banger
(im not sure the engine code for that) and yes ive already changed the PCV valve last year. i stopped changing oil on timeframes a few years ago and now change almost exclusively on miliage. its very safe to say that this car will see less than 6,000 miles per year. 7,500 miles may even take as long as 15-16 months.. who knows what i will do, if i follow the maintence minder it will most likey go past 1 year.

Agreed, I'd change it once a year. Cheap insurance.
