How long to freeze a wheel in place?

Went to check brakes today on the Camry. I have not done the last two 5k rotations so as to have the tires with the most rubber on the rear. But I pulled the wheels six months ago / 10k ago. Could not hammer the wheel off! I put up a block of wood and whacked with a 5 (7?) pound maul, but no luck. Needs tires anyhow, will let a shop deal with it--didn't have enough time to leave the nuts loose and slam on the brakes.

Steel rims, steel hubs. I must have forgotten the antisieze... Or that I'd be taking them off sooner. Blast it!

The wood absorbed the hammer blows. You've got to show it love with direct strikes.

Didn't want to chew up the rim, 99% of the paint is still there. I did try whacking th tire directly, but I don't have a dead low hammer so that got nowhere.

Car was only on a floor jack, did not want to really beat on it--was not about to get under it!

Pull a Steve Austin and give it 2 bionic legs to the bottom of the tire.Watch out as it may come loose and land on you though.

a pressure treated 4x4, about 5 foot in length, is just about the perfect tool for this.

put lugnuts on most of the way, but not snug you need a gap between the tapers .. 1/4" or so is plenty lower to ground so vehicle weight is on tire.-- this is last resort method.

I've found wearing boots a few kicks to the left or right edge or rim usually gets it.

if that doesnt do it... being really careful to not hit anything near the brakes I'll spray on abit of kroil.

I live in the rust belt.. I'm a pro

Hey, doing this method and going for a drive is the real last resort!!

Going for a drive does it, done that before. Mom had a Jeep that I had to drive at 45mph and do about ten hard leans to get it loose. Seriously, it was on there.

I kicked mine. And hard. Not moving. I loosened the nuts while on the ground--I learned long ago to do that. Spin the nuts off a couple of turns and yank on the wheel, that way if the wheel is stuck, you don't have to lower it. Just drive and slam on the brakes. Religous use of antisieze keeps everything unfrozen on the Jetta.

For some reason this Camry has a very tight fit in the rim, around the center opening. Busy for the next couple of weeks, then I'll revisit this.

Just went through this on one front wheel on the Prism. Had to loosen the lug nuts and drive in the drive way to break it loose. New pads now on both sides.

Two words for you: Ford Ranger. I've seen grown men reduced to tears because they cannot get the wheel off the hub. Particularly the rear wheels, since you can't keep turning the wheel to distribute the places you whack it with the hammer.

Stuck on the rear. Was going to make sure the rear pads were not frozen and wearing badly.

Yeah, wish I knew what possessed me to not get out the can when I had the wheels off. Been doing it for years on the Jetta. Brain lapse I guess.

A Ranger has nothing on a good stuck Camry steelie. Those bad bears can grip harder than anything under 3/4 ton when they're feeling ornery.
