The timing belt on my 98 Civic was done about 40000 miles ago (well before I bought it) but I think it may need to be done again as my water pump seems to be failing. The pumpis making a bit of noise, especially at higher rpm's, the engine is starting to run a little hot (gets up to 200 or more F just going up small hill) and I seem to have a slow coolant leak that I just can't find. I see timing belt/water pump kits on ebay for around 100 bucks, but I would need to have a mechanic or otherwise skilled person to do it for me as it's just way over my head.
How long to do timing belt on a Civic?

I wonder if that's an interference engine?
Book time on if it has AC is 3.2 hrs. Yes it is a interference engine.

somewhere between 3~4hrs of labour time is just about right.
Also: I don't trust those chinese water pumps and idler tensioner bearings (being cheep has no part in the reliability/longevity of all the vehicles I serviced so far), so you better embrace yourself for the worse: idler tensioner bearing and or chinese made water pump may fail on you, costing you an engine rebuild because of timing belt snapping.

It sounds like your Civic needs help pretty fast! Get it to your mechanic right away. I don't know what type of material Honda uses for the timing belts but the usual time to change it out is 60K. Toyota has the say policy in there manuals so get the water pump changed as well since there both connected.Why your belt went at 40K I couldn't say but it may have been put on incorrectly causung the belt to wear prematurely.

As mentioned, if the water pump is going out and needs replacing, you might as well do the timing belt too.
I had about 50k on my timing belt when my water pump started to leak and the shop that replaced it said the timing belt still looked good. It wasn't OEM and since the original owner changed it out (quick lube place), I have no idea what brand was used.
