Things like that change procedures going forward. It's safe to say that particular crew never made that mistake again. I can guarantee Lee had them assembling, disassembling, and reassembling engines, and indeed the entire car, while timing them, until it was second nature with NO mistakes.
Rule #1 is: Do it RIGHT.
Rule #2 is: Do it quickly.
Those that can't cut it, won't be around long.
Really depends on the racing oil. I really like VR1, and its additive pack is based on API SL, so it is not a zero/near zero detergency oil. I do not know how long it would be good on the street though. Probably many people use this oil on their track car they drive from home to track, and I would not be surprised to see 5k mile UOA with good results. But I would prefer not to exceed 3k miles if I was to use it on my car.
Motul 300V used to be very dual duty friendly, and the newer formulation is even more street friendly. I wonder if that is about the advancemnts in the base oil and additive technology that came up with more compatible dispersent&detergent aditives with anti wear additives. @edyvw have you shared your UOA results already?

Amsoil dominator says it can be used on the street but they don’t give a mileage. Probably pointless for me to say this lol.
When we did amateur endurance racing, the oil would be changed before each race as part of the prep of the car. So, in other words, practice and two full day weekend sessions. There was enough to do that it was almost no extra work while the car was on the lift. This was a conservative approach and reasonable people could push it further. However this was the judgement of our head mechanic/racer, and he had done this semi-professionally many moons ago so we took his word for it on such things.

Yes, already addressed in post 23.
That happened before I was ever involved in the NHRA.
The incident DID change procedures on the Pro teams.
An example, there are NO lookie-loo tours through the pit while the car is being serviced.
They actually did relay that story on duralube infomercials.
I used Valvoline VR1 20W-50 in my Harley and changed it every year.
