hey everyone ^_^

as the subject says how long can I extend my OCI on my 91 civic.

right now I had my cylinder head ported/polished and rebuilt with all new parts except for the camshaft, the block I replaced my piston rings, rod bearings and main bearings as well as the distributor.

so I'm pretty much starting off with a fresh engine, I am going to be running 5w30 valvoline + wix for about 500k then switch it to amsoil xl 5w30 since I got it free. after the amsoil I'm thinking of sticking with it. I was thinking of doing the OCI at 8000k maybe 10k this should be fine right?

now driving it's mostly stop and go, on the highway I run about 120-130kph which I do almost every other day for at least 30min and this car takes a beating sometimes.

also I lend the car to a friend of mine and shes...well not easy on it from what I'm told haha

I've always said on this board that OCI interval is mainly determined by sump capacity; I know some guys will disagree with that and that's fine. Your Honda probably has a 4 quart capacity; am I correct? I wouldn't push 4 quarts very far. Oil is like an Army; the more of it you have the less it has to work.

Since the engine has recently been done, I would change it frequently for the first few oil changes, then extend it out.

XL can probably do 6.2K miles. I would do a few short runs as mentioned and do a used oil analysis the first 5k miles or so, so assure no coolant ingress, etc.

How do you get Amsoil free?

yeah, PM me with your secret

i would do several short intervals of say 500-1000 miles then one to 5K then start the amsoil and extending

alright thanks guys I guess i'll use valvoline conventional for the fist few OCI.

as for the free amsoil I get it from my dads boss as well as hockey/basketball/football tickets. but i've known him since I was a very very little boy so that helps.

From what I've seen, XL will easily do 10k miles, and maybe even more. The 7.5k rec. is pretty conservative......
