How large of a jump pack is really needed for say a V6 engine? And what kind of heat can things take? I live in the deep south and the car Interior So

Ours lives under the passenger seat of the Outback year round. I doubt it sees 130F down there in our climate? 90F is about the max we ever get, but usually on the hot days we have the windows open an inch.

Ours is a small brick, seems to hold a charge for months in the summer, but I guess it must take a hit at -20, being lithium Ion, but I have never used it winter oddly enough... Almost always its used in the campground if a car door has been left open or on my riding mower if I forget to turn off the key... It's also useful to charge things off the USB port.

You could guess, ask strangers on the internet, or actually look up the storage temperature of the unit your likely to buy. My Gooloo 4500 rates 140F as storage temperature. I would look specifically for the manual of whatever one your looking at. Manufacturers should be rating storage temp at well below the thermal run-away temperature.

As for how many amps you need - probably not much. However the more battery you have, the longer you can spin, or the more likely it is to work if discharged a bit.

I have a wrap of AstroFoil in between the jumper and the case - and keep it inside a plastic box with AstroFoil under the lid.
My AVAPOW is rated to store up to 140°F

Outside the box (or inside) question … These jumpers often come in soft sided cases that would clearly burn with the unit and spread to whatever it’s sitting on like carpet. Would it help to put them in a small fireproof case/box/safe? Reckon they can burn without fresh oxygen supply - but that might slow the spread and help somebody move it a safe distance away. Thoughts?

What if it reflects the heat back in on itself and causes thermal runaway? I'd do some good research before reengineering something.

They have fireproof safes for $20 at home depot; I understand they're made of drywall and meant to keep fire OUT, not in. And if you have something like that in your car, makes it a target for burglary.

FWIW, I kicked over a minivan and one of the parent’s cars with a Gooloo Li-ion jump pack. And I’m leery using one beyond a Prius/Fit or CiviRolla for fear of spicy pillows or fires.

I love mine. I think temps go up to 140 as previously states (model dependent)

I chose my current unit cause it has a small inverter in it. 100 watts maybe...Halo i the brand i have now.

I am looking for a 2nd one, but I recommend not soly choosing by starting amps, but by capacity. 18k mAh min. Get the largest capacity. Many units are only 8k-12k mAh.

I find i often use it for power outages, charging my phone/tablet, etc. Or outings as a power bank.

Also recommend getting one with a 12v socket adapter,,, just in case.

Used it to power my elderly parents oxygen concentrator when she forgot her AC charger when a doctor visit lasted longer than anticipated (forgot what brand i got her) but it had the 12v outlet.

I’m quite happy with the NOCO. I have one of the middle sized one. Popped off a 4.7 tundra today. Note - these really do seem to want the battery to help - they want to charge a weak battery for 15-30 seconds first and then give it a go. Mine has also jumped off a v6 Hyundai with a battery too weak to register. It did it but sounded sluggish.

Much faster than using cables. Also charges my iPhone. This is a gadget I like.

With an engine with that size and compression, it seems like the electrical clamps must become a limiting factor at some point?

The number of models can be overwhelming. I ended up getting the GP4000 for $90 because it's the cheapest model with a 12V output (as far as I can tell) which will be useful for my tire inflator and other accessories

Never had issues with starting V6 with a jump pack. Never had any luck starting a V8 with a jump pack.
