How large combo wrenches do shade tree mechanics have

The Valvomax for my pickup needed a 15/16 and my combo wrench set only goes up to a 7/8. Needed an open end wrench. No socket.

So I used an adjustable wrench. But should get the next few sizes of combo wrenches?

(I might be a tool collector, not sure.)

Tekton or Icon might be the ticket. Or check Craigslist, pawn shops?
He who dies with the most tools wins.

+1 for Tekton, great selection and very reasonable singular piece/wrench prices (But IIRC they only have 12 point if that matters to you)

Also check e-bay, I cherry picked some nice NOS USA made SK there not long ago

I'm in the same boat. If I need a large wrench I use a knipex pliers wrench, or a mid size Cresent adjustable. If I need really big I have couple pipe wrenches I inherited. They work in a pinch.

I often contemplate buying a Bahco 86 and 87 adjustable.

I thought about buying a set of large open ends but they are pricey and I very seldom need one. Pawn shops usually have a basket full of single wrenches and sockets that I pick through. I found a 15/16, 1 and 1 1/8 then needed a 1 1/16 ☹️, have not found one of those yet.

same here, needed a 1 1/4 open end headed to the thrift store and yard sales, no luck, went to the local flea market and found several they were some off brands but worked for me, I kind of doubt I'll ever use it again, but you never know

I have up to 1-5/16 and 27mm.

Sometimes the 20" adjustable wrench comes in handy. I think it was $20 on amazon.

I use 1 1/8 and 1 1/16 pretty often, but not on car stuff.

For car stuff, I rarely go beyond 22 or 24mm.

i have combo wrenches going to 2 1/4” and in metric kit stops at 34mm i believe. had to buy a bigger set for super duty track bar bolts.
