Uh oh. New GFS is out. I hope this doesn't pan out for you folks in Iowa. THAT is freakin cold!

Bryanccfshr, you can slow down your intake of bodily anti-freeze fluid...looks like we'll barely make it into the 20's.

Using Castrol GTX and QS 5w-30.

Going to be below zero the next few nights. Already been single digits here and there the last few weeks.

Never had a problem starting engines in all the years I've been driving..

Take care, bill

Think Havoline 5w-20 will be ok around Detroit in 0F?

Well back in the early 70s I was running a 69 Z28 Camaro with 20W50 that sat outside in Flint. It seemed to start OK all winter, although at -20F it didn't crank all that fast........

Am changing the oil today in the Accord. It has 4600 miles on the current fill, and the Midwest is supposed to be very cold for the next 2 1/2 weeks. Might as well have some clean 5W-20 in for the cold temps.

Put in German Castrol a week ago.

It's -24C/-11F today. It will be interesting to watch the oil pressure on the way to work today.

Never quite understood all the trouble coping with road conditions.

Anyway ..we hit subfreezing a little deeper last night. 5w-20 in one jeep ...5w-40 in the other ..5w-20 in the minivan.

I hope to have 0w-10 in the minivan by next week. (visions of Seinfeld doing AmEx commercial) "Release the hounds!"

Going to be changing the oil in my Cavalier this Saturday with Pennzoil 5W-30 (currently have GTX 5W-30 in it with 4500 miles on it)...supposed to be going down to -29C this coming Wed. night...should be OK!

#@$%!, I put in superflo high mileage 10w40 a week ago in the sunfire.

Shoot, no PROBLEM. You're good to go down to 0 degrees, and it ain't gonna get there in Tennessee. Think of all the poor saps with 10,000 + miles on their 10w-40/20w-50 in the upper midwest with old batteries that will try and start at 20 below. Cars will be sounding like Katheryn Hepburn.

Are you up in Alaska right now Bryan?

I guess I picked a bad time to stop drinking. Haven't had a drop since New Years. I'm about to freak out.

But knowing how much I drank all last year, I'll take a little withdrawal at this point.

Nothing we haven't seen before and nothing to get excited about.

Elwin Taylor, a local ag meteorologist said a couple weeks ago that El Nino was beginning to break up and predicted that we'd be back to normal winter temperatures and conditions by mid-January. Looks like he was right.

Looks like I'll finally get some seat time on my 1947 Ford N plowing the driveway.

Nope, I am home in Tejas.

I don't drink a drop until I get away from work. So for the 2-7 weeks I am away I have accewss to no alcohol.. it's just not possible(I would lose my job for possessing alcohol on the premises and I don't leave the premises.

How do you propose to achieve that ?

Have I missed something ?

All you need is a private blender who takes 5 CST Group III basestocks and adds a bunch of vitamins and minerals ...and have him send you a 5 gallon pail of the stuff for an experiment.
