I just had an epiphany last night that I won't be able to afford Mobil 1 every 5k miles. So I decided to use 3 quarts of Exxon superflo and 1 quart of M1 and one ounce of Valvoline Synpower per quart of oil. I have an 04 Civic. I was wondering how does that sound and if there are any benefits from 1 quart of M1? Any advice is highly appreciated.

Are you buying them at full price?
If so:
-M1: $4.99
-Exxon Superflo: $1.59x3 = $4.77
-4oz of Synpower: $1
Make it $10 for all of them.

Why not get those Maxlife Synthetic or Havoline Synthetic for $2/qt at Autozone. I am sure that is better than your brew!

If you still want M1, get Pepsboy calendar buy 3 get 3 free so about $2.5/qt

This has been recomended by some very knowledgeable engineers with oil company backgrounds. 1 quart of synthetic added to good dino oil for best of both worlds. UOA will tell you for sure and we have seen a few of these on this site. One I remember was 1 quart of redline added to dino. I believe the results where excellent. The proof is in the UOA so to speak.

With the Pep Boys Cool Cars calendar coupon you get 6 for the price of 3 M1. Also heard it's on sale this week for $3.99. One M1 with the Exxon Superflow ($1.09 at Auto Zone) sounds good. The Synpower OT might raise viscosity some.

How about you stop changing your oil so early then.

Not one of my options. The car is under warranty

for another 3 years and my driving habbits(stop

and go traffic) puts me under the severe

maintenance category. And I don't want any

warranty issues to arise if something happens to

the engine later on (God forbid)or else I would,

maybe after warranty I'll do extended drains.

So how do you afford a new car? Seems like a drop in the bucket to me.
If you're sticking to short intervals, just use an inexpensive oil. You won't have any problems.

Asian, I have done a similar thing... my first car needed an oil change and I was a student... so i ran 4 qts of valvoline 10w30 with one quart of Mobil 1 or Syntec... 40000 miles on a 100000 mile car no problems... even tried the Syntec additive you are describing but i used the whole bottle... oil pressure shot up really high so I didn't use it again... wish i would have used an ounce per quart like you are gonna do.

The formula you have described is a good one for the honda on a budget...

If your an EM fan, why not use their synthetic blend and avoid all the blending yourself? Their synthetic blend is already fully formulated and good stuff. There are some other great syn blends out there too.
