How Does This Scam Work?

Yep. Any text or email that could possibly be questionable are deleted without opening their content. Do not pass GO. Do not collect $200.
My wife is constantly tested by her company. They are paranoid as they do business around the world and much products come out of China too. IN her industry other companies, some almost household names, one everyone knows, entire system was held hostage until a ransom was paid. 6 figure ransoms and involvement by law enforcement too.
Before I retired I worked at a bank, same deal and some of the emails they use to test you are REALLY tricky... then it is back to class because you were not supposed to open it. IT just takes one moment of recklessness or rushing to get something done.
The words were always "never open anything you were not expecting"

You dont have to figure it out. once it seems scam.. delete and move on.. dont have to know how it works etc.

I have always posted my phone number on Kijiji ads and have not had any issues.

Lately I have posted free stuff ( trying to reduce stuff in my house ) and some will say they are coming tomorrow, hold it for them, and then cancel at the last minute. I should institute a policy of first come, first served.

I would highly recommend not giving someone your address and them to come to your house. Many police departments now have an area where buyers and sellers can meet. My usual place to meet someone is next to the contractors' entrance at Home Depot or Lowes. Usually lots of people and lots of cameras. If you feel you're being overly paranoid, you're probably taking the right level of precautions.

Stuff I sell is always under 50 bucks. If I was selling an iPhone or something else expensive, Home Depot sounds like a convemient place to meet up.
