Does anyone know how I can find out what Oil Group is in Pentosin MTA? I haven't managed to find it online at all.

Try to ask the company. That's the only way unless you have access to some VERY expensive equipment.

Hhhmmmm! I tried that, they referred me to a supplier who told me that it was confidential info that Pentosin wouldn't even give to them

Yup, that happens. It's quite rare these days that a company will divulge that info.

Time to make friends with some chemists at very well equipped labs.

This all has to do about the "black magic" of compounding a proprietary product. No one will tell you what goes into the elixer.FWIW--Oldtommy

Good luck with that.

There are a few companies that will tell you (Pennzoil), and some oils you can make pretty good educated guesses about (Valvoline), but for most, who knows. Most of the time you don't really need to know the makeup of the base oil. You are not really buying an ingredient list, you are buying the performance of the product. There is no guarantee that an oil made from Group IV is going to be better than a Group III. Pennzoil Ultra is made from Group III (Pennzoil said this, specifically!) and it is one of the best performing oils out there.

Hi,
incyquincy - It matters little in real terms what the "base-oil" is

Today's Lubricants that meet a comparable specification will perform to an almost identical end result regardless of the "base-oil". It is the sophisticated additive package and perhaps some propriatory "add ins" that make up any differences

One simple indicator however is the price!
