How do I change my oil?

I know, simple question, right?

I had a stash of oil and a few filters that I had built-up for my now-gone 2007 Corolla. Pep Boys was gracious enough to let me turn all that oil back in for store credit. So I got 5 quarts of Mobil 1 AFE 0W-20 for the Camry. I have one of the YZZF2 filters for the Corolla that I hope my local dealer will trade in for a cartridge filter for the Camry. I would like to drain the FF earlier than my first free oil change at 5k miles.

So, this Camry has this cartridge filter that I've never worked with before. It has a drain plug in the sump and in the filter housing. So I assume that I simply drain the sump and reinstall the plug. Then open the drain plug on the filter housing, insert the little plastic drain cock that comes with the new filter, let that housing drain, then reinsert that plug. Then remove the filter housing cap, and the cartridge filter will simply slide out of the engine. Reinstall the new filter with the new o-rings and fill the engine back up with oil. I'm sure it's that simple, but I figured I'd ask others who have worked with cartridge filters before, before I go tearing off into it.

Thanks!

Are you kidding me? The one time I tried to return a filter I got a lecture about having to have a receipt.

Talk to the PB manager and 99% of the time they will allow you to do it. If there is a difference in price, you have to pay the difference.

OT! John- you have over 400 quarts of oil?! I hope your fleet is larger then the two vehicles listed. Wow!

The kid at the register looked at me with the deer-in-the-headlights look when I asked. So he intercommed, "Jim to the front register please."

Store manager Jim came up and I explained (honestly) that I had this oil from a previous vehicle that I just sold, and I was hoping that they'd let me trade out for oil for my new car. He nodded his head and told the kid, "yeah, go ahead and do it." Sounds like it's up to the discretion of the store or assistant manager.

I got excellent customer service at Advance today also. I traded 14 quarts of Havoline DS 5w30 for 5 quarts of M1 AFE 0W-20 and a PureOne PL25608 for my new car. I did owe them about $4 on the difference. Based on the PureOne compared to the Toyota filter (link), I think I'll take the PureOne back and at least trade down for a conventional Purolator L25608.
