This 2022 Rav4 showed up in front of my house this morning with heavy damage on the right side and I can't figure out how it got here. I live on a small cul de sac and there is nothing on the street that could have caused this damage. The half shaft was pulled out of the transmission! The window sticker is still inside 🤣

Some dude with 3 kids had to buy a Rav4 instead of something good, went out and got drunk because he's depressed about it, hit a median, the dash lit up with warning lights, he started looking for a place to put it, ended up on your street, got out and staggered away.

That poor innocent Toyota it didn't deserve this, I actually feel bad for it, not even a base model but a mid trim hybrid which is nice. Brand new and already severely damaged like that. Could be stolen and abandoned or the person Got drunk then crashed it and ran to avoid the scene. Call the cops If you haven't. The cops are gonna have fun questioning him. If he sobered up then they can't catch him on a charge unless they get him to slip it out.

I think I figured it out, it was AWD and now it's RWD...so I'm guessing that's how they were able to drive it. Probably hit the curb on the main road and limped it to my house. Lucky me, another unwanted Toyota at my place!

Called the police, maybe they can do a 2 for 1 haul away 🤣

With the paper still in the window, I'm guessing it was a take home car for like the business manager or something. Drunk, ran, ditched off main route. Picked up by friend, reported stolen.. I've actually know of a similar incident that happened here, same situation, guy passed out in someone's back yard.

I don't think it's stolen, it has temporary registration issued by the dealer on 4/27. They didn't even make it 2 days!

I thought it had the window sticker too. Maybe a transport guy than. I knew a kid that transported cars for Porsche, trooper got him going 145 on the thruway. Fired..

Did they actually get it towed or just put a sticker on it the window saying it will be towed in 24 hours? (Which, around here, ends up being more like a week).

They stuck a big orange sticker on the driver's window.

Hopefully it's dealt with in a timely manner...

I remember it happened on several occasions on a 6-lane 55MPH speed limit highway that I used to go to work (route 28 north of I66 for anyone familiar with northern Virginia) that a car would be broken down or abandoned on the shoulder. Sometimes it would be missing the license plates.

And it would sit there for days, if not a couple of weeks. I'd venture to guess that if it's been there for more than a day or two, it's abandoned.

And then I would call the Fairfax County Police and say:

"Hi, there's an abandoned car on the shoulder of 28 at (location).

It's been sitting there for a couple of weeks now.

I'm getting sick of looking at it every time I drive by.

Do you think maybe someone could do their job and deal with it?

Thanks"

After I called, the car would usually be gone within a day or two.

Unexplained is why it took a call to get them to deal with it...

One of the richest counties in the entire USA and this is how they roll.

In addition to not looking very good to have abandoned vehicles sitting on the shoulder for an extended period of time..it's a safety hazard.

(This highway, although not an Interstate, gets as much traffic as one and I think it's designed to Interstate standards... If it were an Interstate the state police would patrol it and vehicles wouldn't be left on the shoulder for days and weeks)
