How dangerous is Freon?

had a burst of Freon blow into the cab of a car. I am done and calling professionals. Question is does it just need to be aired out? Is it dangerous inside the car? Does it need to be cleaned?

Actual Freon R12 has been out of regular use for decades. Probably a 134 leak. Pretty harmless. It will not remain liquid at any normal temperature. So it evaporates and is on it's way.

EDIT: Actual Freon is a wonderful dry-cleaner. Leaves no residue and is fantastic at grease removal.

Neither is harmful as they both evaporate. However, there can be oil in the refrigerant and that can stain floor mats and cloth seats.

I think you are fine, some dustoff products are similiar. The real risk is it going through the intake from under the hood and becoming phosgene gas.

If you opened the doors a few minutes, its gone.

Thank you everyone. Calling professional mechanics and was a mistake to think I can tinker with this. Learned my lesson. Was just worried about the Freon going into the cab of the car. It is not my car and just worried about safety. Will just air out a few hours

So, there was a burst of Freon.

And the pressure in the system stayed the same.

One of those two statements must be wrong. They cannot both be true.

Yeah. Maybe Freon can was loose we all ran and didn’t see but the cab filled with smoke

I don’t know what happened. It burst Freon but no visible damage and pressure never went down. It’s at 40 and when we tried to add it burst like if it was maybe a pressure release? Idk but the car is blowing kinda cold and checked multiple times pressure hasn’t gone down from 40
Burst from where ? The charging hose? Accumulator? A hose or schrader valve ? I leak in the evaporator will not just stop.

Have no idea. Maybe at the can? Idk but pressure didn’t drop but we also couldn’t get pressure to go past 40

You really should just stop and take this to a shop. I'm not sure you have enough experience to do this safely. Also if you did not purge the hose, you have introduced air and moisture to the system. It needs to be evacuated, put on a vacuum and see if it holds vacuum, then charged with refrigerant by weight.

Car had Freon. Was at 30 so I added and stop at 40. Car has been running for 30min pressure hasn’t gone down and blowing cold. And burst hasn’t happened. And we didn’t see what burst. But pressure hasn’t gone down so it can’t be a line or something. Car has been running for 30min after the unknown burst

Leave be then, but if you have any other issues, take it to a shop. You don't know how much refrigerant is in there, you don't know the high side pressures.
