Looking to replace T-stat, Housing and hoses on my son's 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8.
The T-stat housing gooseneck is corroded, and the hoses have not ever been replaced. Don't recall how many miles, but it is a LOT.
Hose options on Rock Auto are:
Dayco (Closing out though, so limited number)
Continental
Gates
Ac Delco Professional

Should I avoid any of these?
Recommendations?

Probably will just go with Doorman housing replacement. Not so many options on this.

T-stat?
Nissan t-stat is a little pricy about 45.00 delivered
Other options from RA
Stant
Beck/Arnley
AISIN (But this one does not come with a gasket, I would need to research what gasket to get)

Any feedback on performance of any of these, or just go with OE replacement?

I always liked Dayco hoses. They appear a little thicker and fit better than Gates. However, you really can't go wrong with any of those hose brands you suggested since they got to be better than a 22 year old hose. but I would take advantage of the closeout pricing of Dayco. . I try to go with OEM thermostats but I don't know if I would pop $45 for a Nissan stat. I doubt it. I probably would go with the Aisin stat and buy a MAHLE / CLEVITE C31808 gasket for it.

For the hoses, I’ve used all of the brands without any issues. For the t-stat, I’d stick with the Aisin or OE Nissan. Beck / Arnley if you want to roll the dice and see what you get. Sometimes you might end up getting the OE parts in there.

Unfortunately, B/A might be reboxing Motorad now :sneaky:

OEM thermostat is likely Fuji. If its available I would go that route instead of aftermarket.

I have had OK luck with both Dayco and Gates hoses. Continental I won't touch anymore mainly because the ones for my Nissan's did not fit. They had bought out Goodyear hoses and used same part number, the Goodyear fit perfectly, Continental did not.

The housing is a housing so as long as it fits.

Gates has been in a race to the bottom for the last two decades, but I'd still use them if they come from the same warehouse as slacktide said.

Stant = Motorad = junk

See how much OEM hoses are, they may be fairly cheap. Usually they are much thicker than aftermarket hoses.
With the luck I’ve had, I always go with the Japanese OEM (Subaru in my case). The money spent on OEM quality will EASILY be eclipsed if any part of the “budget” junk fails to work as intended.

Oil, transmission fluid, filters, wipers, brake pads… sure, but third party. But IMO OEM electronics, injectors, cooling system, etc… just too important to try to save 10-15% regardless of the cost…

I'm doing a full coolant system replacement on my 08 CRV. I wanted to change all the little egr/intake coolant hoses as well and OEM is the only way to get them. Ended up ordering all new Honda coolant/heater/radiator hoses. Price wasn't much different than dayco/gates on RA and I know they'll all fit. I ordered the Thermostat (Tama) and Radiator (Denso) from Rockauto.

RA has a Tama Thermostat for your car for $8.43 and Fel-Pro gasket for $1.95..

Did this today with my son.
Used Aisin stat and MAHLE / CLEVITE C31808 gasket.
Used Gates hoses. These were much thicker than the hoses that were removed. Could not re-use the factory spring style clamps. Had to use hose clamps.
Overall, pretty easy project.

I noticed the same thing when I replaced the Lower hose on my Mazda with a Gates. Part of the reason I ordered OEM hoses for my Honda.

Glad you got it done

Continental has ruined the belt and hose line they bought and killed from Goodyear the belts are no longer special as were the Gatorback and the hoses are non-fitting made in third world junk now
