The CEL in my 96 Sunfire has been on steady since I bought it about a month ago. I haven't done anything major to the car, just changed the air anf fuel filters, changed the PCV valve and changed the oil and filter. I removed 2 spark plugs, put them back in (with anti-seize) and that's it. When I bought the car, I filled the tank and put a bottle of Redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner in the tank. I recently sprayed out the throttle body with throttle body cleaner. I've been using Shell V-Power 91 octane fuel when I can, but more often than not I usually use 87 octane fuel from Irving or Ultramar.

When I got my car I put in a bottle of Techron before I even drove it around...retrospect not the best idea but regardless... That same day I got a CEL, the mech read the code and I needed the EGR cleaned. If it idles rough or stalls at all check out the EGR.

Edit - I guess i can't read...so the cel is out, sweet.

Did you get the code read at AZ? I have a "slow O2 sensor response" that pops up every once in a while. It's on one or two cycles and off 10 to 20.

You probably somehow manage to clean both your mass air sensor and your 02 sensor on the catalytic converter a little bit. Enough to put it back within specs. You just saved a boat load of money my friend.

A self diagnosing and repairing automobile! That is what I want.

As long as the bulb didn't burn out, you're set.

Probably just longer term cleaning that got it back in spec. (as mentioned above)
