House passes bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent

Kids wait for the bus in the dark already. This will be nothing new. I did as a kid in the North. My kids did here in the South.

The proper question is why does the federal government have any say in the time anyway. Its a clear over-reach they started in 1918 due to "war". Just one more power grab during war they never gave up.
This is absolutely the wrong way to think about the matter. I am more against government overreach than most, but time schemes need to be uniform to work. They need to be governed. They maybe even need to be enforced. I don’t think this libertarian question has merit.

I have the perfect high-tech BITOG-inspired solution ...

Why don't we develop a oil-pressure driven, variable drive system for clocks? It could "advance" the clocks (at a rate of 10 minutes per month) for six months, and then "retard" the clocks for 6 months (at a rate of 10 minutes per month) .... We can call it "VCT" (variable clock timing) !!!

Of course, it would be viscosity dependent; only accurate with 0w-20 "fully synthetic" oil ... 😜

P.S. ... how long before AI grabs this idea and runs with it?

Not sure how accurate this map is, but here it is anyway...

There is nothing in the constitution giving the federal government control over time. They utilize the contorted "commerce clause" to usurp this power, which is really inaccurate because it says they can regulate commerce not time. If the states wanted to do there own thing they would be entitled. I will defer to our founders who were experts on such things.

The United States has 4 time zones and 9 if you count the territories so its already not standard. There are 24 time zones in the world. Changing it randomly back and forth twice a year is simply less uniform.

And just as an FYI, I work for a German company and have already traded emails with them several times today. I start early. Easy peezy.
