California already mandated a later start timeSchool starts too early. I think my HS homeroom time was 7:25 AM. Ridiculous.
In fact, that is crucial. However, there are more crucial issues as always.I like how the focus is on these crucial issues.
Yes, pick one, set it and forget it!!While I would prefer it to be set forward (summer), I would not argue if it were set back (winter).
But for goodness sake, pick one or the other and leave the flipping clock alone! DST is stupid; the rationale for its existence ended decades ago.
The hour makes no difference here. It's still dark when kids are getting on the bus. I think this is a bit of an extreme take.In northern states, especially farther east in their time zone, kids will be waiting for buses in pitch darkness. Then the bus will kill a few kids, and then everyone will lose their minds over this.
Complaining about this is a sign of how society is just bored with itself.
Kids wait for the bus in the dark already. This will be nothing new. I did as a kid in the North. My kids did here in the South. In northern states, especially farther east in their time zone, kids will be waiting for buses in pitch darkness. Then the bus will kill a few kids, and then everyone will lose their minds over this.

Many of the school districts outside of the big cities in the Northeast are switching over to at home pickup instead of the bus stops. My hometown did it a few years ago and it was largely because of how spread out the kids are nowadays. The stops that used to have 15-20 kids show up were down to 1-2 kids.In northern states, especially farther east in their time zone, kids will be waiting for buses in pitch darkness. It does seem silly to pick DST. Either way, as long as we have one single time local entities can adjust. Open at 7 instead of 8, etc.Not a great idea IMO. I thought it was at first.
"Everyone agrees the twice-a-year clock change is ridiculous. But if we’re making one time permanent, why choose the one that most sleep and circadian experts don’t recommend? Permanent standard time aligns better with our biology because morning sunlight is what sets our internal clocks. Permanent Daylight-Saving Time means darker winter mornings, later body clocks, and more circadian disruption. This would be another disaster for American health. It’s probably too late to stop this but switch this to permanent Standard time instead!!!!"
"9:00 AM Sunrise is more insane than most people realize. That's 1.5 class periods into school before the sun even rises. 2 hours into most blue collar workdays. That extra hour of daylight (in cold winter when everyone is inside anyway) from 5-6p isn't worth it at all."
It’s nothing to do with that - the comments here are easily predictable …I don't get it.
If it is always the same and we just move the clock forward by 1 hour permanently, it would just eventually make everyone work the same way regardless of the sun shining at what time of the year, and eventually people will fall back to a biologically comfortable schedule. Like Spain eat lunch at 2-4pm and dinner after 9pm and breakfast served from 9am till 12pm.
What is the point then, might as well just cancel daylight saving time.
That’s what we have done for years …Many of the school districts outside of the big cities in the Northeast are switching over to at home pickup instead of the bus stops. My hometown did it a few years ago and it was largely because of how spread out the kids are nowadays. The stops that used to have 15-20 kids show up were down to 1-2 kids.
