I have used other email programs but now that Hotmail - Live or Outlook Email accounts support IMAP I have switched and am well pleased.
I use Thunderbird for email but it will work with any Email Program that supports IMAP Email.

Big plus with IMAP VS POP3 is that with IMAP mail stays on the mail server so is available no matter what computer device you use.
A couple of other free IMAP email providers that offer both web based email and IMAP are GMX and ZOHO.
