Last week, there were evening reports of a serial rapist in Sydney.

CCTV footage of the rapist, with the cry for the public to identify the perp...ring Crimestoppers with any information.

Sunday reports that the guy handed himself over to Police, and that he was charged in a special Sunday court hearing.

Turns out his family and friends saw him on the TV, and he went to the Police station to explain that he wasn't the one...they processed arrested and charged him, without checking his story.

...it wasn't him.

Now they (Police) have to apply to the Supreme Court to have the charges dropped.

Lazy Police, and this bloke's reputation is trashed.

Hope he gets a fortune. (although they passed legislation a few years ago indemnifying shoddy Police from their victims).

Probably annoys me more than it should.

My father was arrested and charged for car theft when I was little. The cops came to our house, asked Mum where he was, she said at work.

They marched into his office, and took him into custody in front of his workmates.

Their evidence was that they found his driver's licence in the stolen car...never bothered to check whether he was the previous owner of the car, nor that he'd applied for a new licence having lost it.

You've got to understand that our perception of standard and sensible performance has now been downgraded to "sub-standard". You're just expecting too much from them.

Some have suggested that the fall of the Roman Empire was due to the introduction of lead piping..

I mean, we see and remark daily about stuff that is the equivalent of watching chimps performing everything from brain surgery to ditch digging with whiffle ball bats as their tools ...and we're seeing more and more of it.

Blah. I think it's just the media saturation. Nutty stuff has happened from time immemorial. Only now media types have web pages and 24 hours of airtime to fill.

True, but now we have lost of delusions of propriety and sensibility. Stuff is supposed to work and work correctly. Now we know that it doesn't. Our ignorance, and the bliss that it brought, has been shattered.

Maybe media coverage will turn things in his favor, and hopefully expose the 'always right' gang [police].
