Affirmative action has been necessary to equal the playing field that has been in effect since the 30's. It is a good concept that is here to stay.

No, it is reverse discrimination and one of the worst things this country is doing against people who did nothing to deserve it.

There's nothing worse than when someone tries to fight ignorance with ignorance.

All of the students who actually were paying attention to him get insulted by him via portrayal that they are inattentive because they are black?

I'm not going to cut this guy slack because he's black and being ignorant toward blacks.

He says he wants black youth to succeed, but grouped all of the good kids at that school in the bad kids exclusively because of the happen to share the same race as the bad kids? There is absolutely no excuse for this. Does not matter what race he happens to be referring to, or what race he is.

This was pure maliced bigotry of the worst kind, incited by pure ego.

If he wants black youth to succeed, perhaps start by not openly racially insulting all of them because the actions of some.

When 'Affirmative Action' began, under Republican Nixon, it was necessary because minorities had no way of getting into unions (where jobs were usually passed from father to son...and even a white person couldn't get in without connections).

In the years afterwards these needed programs have become institutionalized to the point that minorities get PREFERENCE based on skin color/ethnicity....whether qualified or not.

In NYC, the Fire Dept. recently had to hire minorities who scored as low as 25 (out of 100) on the entrance test over whites who scored over 95...How is this FAIR?

Instead of doing well in school so that they can compete for jobs these kids act out (as seen in the video), do poorly, and then DEMAND jobs based on skin color.

'Equal Opportunity' should not mean 'guaranteed results'.

PS:
If these QUOTAS affected the children of SCOTUS justices they would end them but because they only affect working class whites they allow them to continue in perpetuity.
Suppose Merrick Garland was told that he couldn't become the next SCOTUS justice because there are already 3 liberal Jewish justices (Jews are less than 2 percent of America) and we need more DIVERSITY on SCOTUS....would he be happy???

Please elaborate on how it has equaled the playing field if its been in effect since the 30's and the problem is still there.

How is it a good concept ? To give a person a job over someone more qualified, based on the person's race or gender ? Please explain why you feel that a person is entitled to a certain position just because they fit a particular physical profile.

Do you guys want me to link to the latest National Review scathing article about the white trash here or are we only allowed to take shots at *the other* group?

How about we keep the politics out of this forum??

So now one is considered 'racist' if he opposes preferences based on race....bizzaro world....

Yep:

If you are for a black candidate because he's black, that's not racisim. But if you are against the black candidate because you disagree with his political philosophy, it's racism.

Being called a racist is often a sign that your opponent can't argue based on the logic and facts. Therefore, they resort to an ad hominem attack.

One of the oldest and most used logical fallacies.

Then I guess that candidate has broad appeal

But seriously, it really says little about a candidate. Almost every candidate would be disqualified by that measure.

What speaks more loudly is what candidate supports the racist crazies of every racial and ethnic group.

A candidate cannot stop who speaks their support. But a candidate can control who they support with their actions and resources.

Very few racists admit that they are such. Even KKK don't admit that even though their philosophy is the epitome of racism.

Very true. I think racism is a lot more hidden today in the workplace. Although, the advancement of the internet and the anonymity of it allows some folks to say things they never would in the real world.

A motivational speaker took a moment of disrespect during his speech and turned it into a lesson.

According to Pix11, Eric Thomas, a.k.a “The Hip Hop Preacher,” spoke off script during a speech he gave at Vashon High School in St. Louis on Feb. 22. According to the video, Vashon is one of the lowest performing schools in the district. Thomas was discussing how he was homeless for two years before meeting a preacher and turning his life around, when a group of students began to speak when he was speaking. After asking them to stop, they continued, giving Thomas his platform to teach an entirely different lesson.

Thomas later said that the students need to take school seriously because people like him want to see black youth succeed in a world that tries to make them fail.

I don't agree with this statement. As far as I know nobody wants any kid to fail, regardless of skin color, religious belief ...

their own peers don't want them to succeed where the peers themselves didn't...

I work in an inner city school and my son teaches on a reserve for aboriginals. We get no respect, are mistreated daily by the students but we soldier on. It's very daunting.

If I could ask for one thing, or change one thing, or blame someone, it would be the parents. The school can't foster a decent respectable human being when their home life doesn't also encourage it. Yes we are paid but the child learns instinctively from birth and develops an indelible attitude towards the world that they are downtrodden and owed something by the world. In a classroom it's 35 to 1. 1 person trying to lift them up and 35 trying to tear everything down.

Until things change at home, it will not improve. Some things in the past are best forgotten.

Then there are the "reverse racism" deniers.

I don't deny the racist nature of the KKK.

When will we stop denying the racist nature of others?
