I've got a Ridgeline that usually goes about 7,000 miles between oil changes according to the Maintainece Minder. I have been using the Supertech 5w30 oil in it for some time now. Is this oil up to the task or should I look at something else? I'm not really wanting to go synthetic since the MM is designed around dino and my dealer says Honda does not really push the use of synthetic.

How about moving up to a Syn Blend...like Motorcraft Blend 5w30. Its very reasonable in price (about $12 per 5 qt. jug @ WalMart). It does not cost much more than a conventional oil.
If you have near 75,000 or more on the Ridgeline, Valvoline MaxLife blend would be a good choice ($14.40 WalMart/5 qt.jug)

It's got about 60,000 on it. Maybe a blend isnt a bad idea. I have always wondered just how much synthetic does a blend have in it. So, are you saying that the SuperTech conventional isnt up the job? Whats the scoop on the Supertech full synthetic oils, any good?

Going 7,000 miles i'd move up to a better oil for sure.

Whats wrong with the SuperTech? It meets all the current specs. You are going by the oil reminder. It wouldnt be my frst choice, but if it makes you feel better we used it at the last company I worked at and we had zero problems. Its as good as any other conventional oil. If your happy with it and your not experiencing any trouble, Id stick with it. You are useing a good oil filter(Factory, I presume) and changing it at a regular interval, so carry on. Just because its cheap, does not make it a inferior product. There are alot of cars running on Walmart oil changes out there.
90% of the miles are highway, non towing miles, and no real steep grades. I have had no prblems with Supertech but I dont know if its sludging up inside the engine or not. With only 60,000 on it, that would probably not cause any problems untill a little later.

Valvoline MaxLife Blend claims it has 30% Synthetic (and I guess 70% dino).

I checked out the Valvoline site and went through the questionair, it recommends Durablend. I was at walmart today and they do not sell Durablend.
SuperTech Synthetic is $17 for 5qts. For a dollar more you can get QS Ultimate Durability which would be much better.
If you want dino, I'd get Pennzoil conventional and change it every 5k. You might be okay going 7k on it but I wouldn't personally. It's all about what you are comfortable with.
For synthetic, I really like Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum as I have had good luck with them both. You could most likey stretch it out to 10k with either of them. Honda engines seem to generally be pretty easy on oil but you can fork over about $25 for a used oil analysis to know for sure.
Super Tech is not a bad oil as it meets SM spec and possibly GN-4 too, not sure on the GN-4 though. I would not run Super Tech past about 4k but again, its what you are comfortable with.

I can't say anything about "Super Tech" oils but I heard it's a decent synthetic oil that should take you the distance you quoted.
If you looking for another brand that would depend on how much you can afford. I myself use Mobil 1 5w30 as a standard cuz compared to all the others they are about the same price except for the new long distance synthetics hich can be about 2$ bucks more on top of the standard synthetics.
Honda engine are very strong motors and yes the servie mechanics don't endorse anything more than what is needed.
Still though for 7K OCI's I would most certainly continue to use a synthetic oil and the "Super Tech" might be your best bet.
I to say stay with the "Super Tech" and be happy.

cassidy, would you say your area has extreme cold winters? If so, freezer test your oil plus one of these for comparison.

Do a Used Oil Analysis with TBN on your current oil. You may be shocked at how well supertech holds up in a Honda. I had a 2007 Honda Accord and Hondas are very easy on oil. I would run some synthetic oils to 15,000 miles in a Honda, maybe more depending on your driving.
