I would simply like to hear from any Honda owner of a v6 if they have used 5w30 and if so for how many miles with or without problems. The reason I ask is I have a nice stockpile of Maxlife 5w30 that fits my other cars and I would love to simply use it for the 2005 Honda Odyssey (125,000mi) as well. Please no comments like why not just use 5w20 or 5w20 won't shear as bad or anything like that I would just like to see by the numbers if other people have had good luck or bad running this way.

+1.

I have an 06' Odyssey. The 5-30 is PERFECT, and recommended by Honda for the 3.5L V6 everywhere around the globe except the CAFE restricted U.S.

MaxLife 5-30 is an awesome oil!

Thank you for sharing your experience. Can you tell me about how many miles you have running 5-30?

I ran the "recommended" 5-20 for the first 70,000 miles, due only to warranty concerns. After that, I have ran either Pennzoil Conventional or Mobil 5w30, up to today's current mileage of 115,000 miles.

Zero discernible difference in MPG's. The only difference I detect is a quieter engine. I will never go back to 5-20's.

Why would using 5w30 give you reason to believe there might be a problem? Vehicles are not as fickle as bitoger's perceptions of viscosity. You'll be fine using that stash. Just as 5W-20 users are when using the recommended viscosity.

Probably vert tiny difference in gas mileage. I use 5w30 in all our Hondas no problem.

That's what I'm talking about. Thanks for the real life testaments it helps ease my mind. All this talk about tighter tolerance and such freaks you out sometimes and having people who have actually done it give you feedback is helpful.

Ran 5w30 in a 2001 Odyssey with the 3.5 from 70k to 244k, and the engine ran fine when we traded it in (transmission's another story). OTOH, in '01, 5w30 was the recommended oil.

FWIW, my son's '99 V6 Accord has had only 5w30 it's entire life of about 116K miles. All used oil analysis very positive with quite a mix of lousy Bay Area stop-and-go traffic, and we're both above average in aggressiveness on the open road...

My 2010 Accord is a 4 cylinder, but I run Pennzoil Ultra 5w30 in it. I bought it with 34k miles. Now she's at 75k...and that whole time, she's been on a steady diet of Pennzoil Ultra 5w30.

Yeah, I use it in my 2008 Honda V6 for the past 15k miles wo any problems. Car does not know the difference.

its good to hear about people using 5w30 after 2004 as thats when the v6 was converted to 5w20 I think.
