I was given this dinged up Honda generator and 1998 year model 25 Tohatsu, I definitely plan on getting both running and having some fun.

For the Honda, I plan on going through the carb, new air filter, spark plug and probably some 15W40. Those of you with these generators, how do you like them? Are they quiet?

As for the Tohatsu, its bulletproof, will most likely need the carbs gone through, new plugs and fresh oil in the foot. 🤟🤟🤟

Love all Honda generators -- and they are as quiet as generators get. All models are pretty easy to pull apart. I think that you have a timing belt in that model that you might want to replace. If you have spark and compression, you will probably get many years of service. Not that I recommend this, but the Hondas take a ton of abuse. Nothing to offer on the Tohatsu.

⬆️ Is that the OP issue? Did the OP say his Honda was junk? (as Taryl's video implies)

That is a great plan to get these machines working again. Hour meter on the Honda?

Can't speak to that model of genny.

We had a Nissan (Tohatsu) 25hp OB 2-stroke twin cylinder motor for about 15 years. Never one problem with it; super reliable starting and running. All I ever did was drain the carbs and flush the water pump jacket at the end of each season.

Honda made and still makes high quality generators. I'm guessing the generator in the video I posted has lots and lots of hours on it.

My thought is there was much less competition and choices on generators 25 years ago. But Honda still prices them for the few that will buy them at absurd prices. Nothing wrong with that in a free market society.

If I'm going to overpay for a generator, it will be a Winco.

Honda generators are definitely some of the quietest out there. I will say I think their smaller ones (the inverter generators like the EU2200) are worth the premium more so than their larger ones which are crazy money.

That EU3000 is a premium unit. Electric start inverter, top notch build quality, fuel efficient and quiet. Robust construction in the inverter stage, likely fully potted. I would be inclined to put more effort into restoring this than other equipment.

The EU3000IS was a really nice piece of equipment.
Much closer to being a real 3K genset from a peak/ sustained rating than lots of what you see now with really long lash intervals.

I can always find honda parts, sometimes they are expensive but I can always shop around a bit if I fo it up front.
