I have a 96 Honda 4 cylinder, and need to add some refrigerant and oil to the AC system.

Honda specifies ND-8 oil.

Would oil that is compatible with 134a work?

Or does it need a special honda fluid?

Thanks

Googling shows that ND-8 is similar, if not identical to PAG 46, which is one of the common 134a compatible oils. The PAG refers to type, the 46 refers to viscosity.

Thanks TooManyWheels

I will add some "normal" oil to the system when I charge it.

And not worry about a proprietary Honda fluid for this application.

No prob. Just be aware that while there are a couple of types of oil which are compatible with the refrigerant, there is only one type which is "best" for the compressor.

Actually, I would be very cautious about adding oil. Systems leak refrigerant like crazy, but normally the oil stays intact, and adding oil degrades the system performance pretty quickly. When you talk about adding oil, my opinion is we should be talking fractions of ounces, not multiples.
