My local NAPA has their house brand 0w20 Syn for $3.49/qt.

When i dumped my FF in my wife's Honda Pilot 3.5, i used NAPA 0w-20 (previous sale)& TG 7317 filter.

I was thinking about buying 2 OCI's worth of NAPA 0w-20 Syn while its on sale. it's the cheapest 0w-20 ive seen without a MIR.

Is it similar to Valvoline Synpower ? Or does Ashland even blend oil for NAPA still ?

Thanks,

As far as I know its synpower still. At 3.49 a qt it'd cost me 14$ for the 4 quarts I need and a TG for 6$ and for 20$ have a syn oil change...hard to beat or argue with that.

Yes indeed, use any NAPA Oils with confidence!

I have only heard/read many times that, NAPA oils(Syn/Dino) are only made by Ashland(Valvoline) but, not necessarily the same chemistry as Volvoline products.

And though IDK myself, I would think that Ashland needs to make/blend an oil to meet NAPA's cost specification.

There is a NAPA product data sheet floating around here that shows the 0W-20 to be line-for-line the same as Synpower.

I bought a bunch for the Forester because I could get the 5 quart jugs of Synpower at Walmart when they were one sale, and get the quarts (for a +1 at a change or top-off mid OCI) at NAPA for a deal.

You could search the VOA section and see.

I have heard some people say NAPA's synthetic oil has a weaker add pack than Synpower, but I don't know if it is true.

However, it should be good enough for your Honda.

The -30 CCV is much better for the Synpower, the Napa is starting to approach typical conventional oils at 5,400 and is beat by some synthetic blends at that level. But that is 5w30, I would think it much harder to "cheap out" on the 0w20 the OP is asking about.

I never can understand people with 35-40 thousand dollar cars "cheaping" out on oil changes which will save no more than the change that falls out of their pocket in a year. On the other hand, it would be good to know if the Valvoline SynPower 0w20 and the NAPA are the same. Ashland's advanced DP is NOT going to reveal on a VOA though. Ive been happy enough with the Valvoline SP 0w20 - I thinks it's best on the market for under 5 bucks a qt.

NAPA is good oil.

Let's call it inexpensive instead of cheap.

But like any Valvoline product, not in the same league as comparable SOPUS or Mobil offerings.

Valvoline to me is on the same tier as Warren.

Neither are leading the industry with innovation.

What no one seems to be asking is what the expected OCI is going to be on his wife's Pilot. As many on here tend to change the oil before the OLM reaches 15%, I wouldn't hesitate to use any 0W20 and that includes the NAPA Syn 0W20.
