Honda 1.5L Turbo Reliability?

The problem with trying to buy a new car that will last 15 years, is you really don't know its long term reliabilty until about 15 years from now.

Take for example my 2002 Jeep GC. The heater core failed at about 10 years. It was 22 hours book rate shop time to replace, so labor, etc at a shop would have been well over $3K. For a heater core.

Been seeing reports of failing ECU's on some brands at 10 years. Replacement $2K if you can get one. Fortunately there are repair shops that work on those - but that is going to continue to be a big issue. Can they repair the new ones - which I assume are multi layer surface mount stuff?

You just never know. Engine is but 1 of 100 things that can kill you.

Well said.

This is why I continue with our Volvo 240s and mechanical diesel Mercedes 300D. The complexity of modern cars has no appeal for me.

I said this recently I just don't think Honda is leading the pack anymore with their 4cylinder engines like they used to.

Also, can anyone explain why they got rid of the port 2.0 that would run forever and instead put a GDI 2.0 in its place that gets LESS hp? What is the reasoning for this?

Another dumb thing Honda did was not give the Passport Trail model a lift. You can't take that thing off road at all. It hits bottom over the smallest obstacles. It's basically useless off-road and limited to pavement.

I will tell you that our Mazda's have been very reliable. Our 2.5 now has 168k on it with oil change every 5k with synthetic and our 2.0 has needed nothing but oil and filter changes.. At 165 K I replaced a water pump that had no issues and the serpentine belt that was not bad just because it is the car my wife mostly drives. The next good part I will be replacing is the fuel pump. These things seem to be the timex watch of car dom. I don't like new cars because of the limited life of electronics but the Mazda's are very exceptional.

We had our 17 CRV Touring for 7 years and 50k miles. No issues with oil dilution but I always changed the oil at 5000 miles. I preferred the 2.4L in our 13 CRV but my wife liked the better in city acceleration in the 17. We traded in the 17 a couple of years ago for a 24 RDX.
