You are dating yourself!
Yes sir - literally "One Piece At A Time".

For all the work put into building the vehicle, he could have spent the time working at a job to earn the money for a real car.

It seems that he's willing to work very hard to stay homeless and avoid working.

He has a home now and found a job in the sugarcane fields.
If you gave him welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, he'd just get fat like the rest of the ghetto.

Hunger can drive people to excel.
Handouts are a crutch that often leads to failure.

The Projects should have a build a car day. No wait. They all have cars with tinted windows, donk rims, and booming sound systems. Obviously, we pay them too much for their free ride.

Those that succeed made an effort to. Those that don't, look at others to blame.

The mostly Fiat shrimpmobile can reach 50 mph on the highway, and Souza has been able to use it to find a home and a job in the local sugarcane fields.

Are you saying there are no criminals or crackheads with jobs?

What found interesting in the story was that it said people laughed at him and said his project wouldn't work while he was trying to build it. That's just like a lot of people to point and laugh when someone tries to do something instead offering any constructive help.

I'm impressed - that takes talent. Good for him!

What Undummy says is so true, it's scary. Go to the 'ghetto' sometime - guranteed a good chunk of them have better rides than you do!

:P

All is not correct, some or most will fit better.

It is more likely that the money for the tinted windows, donk rims, and booming sound systems is off the paper trail income that may or may not be legal, rather than from welfare.

Welfare is the safety net for their "off the books" activities.

I guess on the street or alley somewhere where he was living, or maybe he had a friend that let him store it. I understand Brazil has a lot of living on the street and shanty without any safety nets. It does make you wonder though. I imagine if you tried to do that on skidrow in the US other bums would destroy your project, or some property owner or official would throw in a monkey wrench. It's like you can't afford to be poor in the US.

Some people just don't have the mental capacity/stability to work. It takes a certain mindset to do something like this. Most employers are not willing or open minded enough to work with this type of "talent".

I am grateful for my mental health.

Car are stupid expensive to buy in Brazil especially considering the average wage. A Focus approaches $30k new. So of course used vehicles are quite expensive especially with the low cost labor/willingness to keep them running.
