Don't know if this has been mentioned lately. I was at Walmart looking at oil and fluids. All the High Mileage oils I looked at were SM except for Mobil 1 High Mileage, it was SL. And Quaker State High Mileage had no API rating and cost even more than Pennzoil High Mileage, which was SM. Maybe Quaker State High Mileage really has the good stuff lol?

Ive used Valvoline HM (maxlife?) in my pontiac that not only leaked but burnt oil. I saw a reduction in both. I also used it in my toyota 22r engine thats RIP in my backyard after over 550k miles.
could that oil be old stock due to the rating?

Could which oil be old stock, the Valvboline HM you used or the ones I looked at? I don't think any of the oils I looked at today were old stock, I looked at some dates and they were recent and Walmart probably has a high turnover rate. The Maxlife I saw today was SM. I think it would still have the seal conditioner qualities and reduced oil burning of the older stock.

Many here on BITOG believe ZDDP has no impact on cat conv. so they throw caution to the wind and use high ZDDP oils anyway.

The QS website is short on info, but I seem to remember seeing QS had similar specs to Pennzoil conventional on one of the QS sites.

Personally, i would not use any oil that was not at least rated SL. If it was not rated, then there should be a good explanation that dosent take a secret agent to find. My thoughts are if it is not API rated, stay away from it. It may be a fine oil but there are plenty that cary the proper ratings and are also stout. Just my thoughts.
QS is a very confusing product. Apparently it is not exactly the same as Pennzoil. For some reason the QS says, "Not for sale in Mexico" despite having Spanish interpretation on it just like Pennzoil does, but Pennzoil doesn't say "not for sale in Mexico"
. It's also hard to find QS specification and datasheet.
There is another thread about Quaker State High Mileage not have API cert with a link to Shell products. And a datasheet from '05 said it was SM, but the datasheet is old (might still be valid) and it still is a wonder why doesn't Quaker State High Mileage say SM on the bottle. And it costs more the Pennzoil High Mileage which is unusual.
