So I've been looking for a fully synthetic 10w40 to use in my scooter. It's got a cvt with its own oil so any engine oil should do. What i find tricky is getting a 5 quart jug of any fully synthetic in a 10w40 weight. About the only thing I can find easily is Mobil 1 high mileage. Any opinions about using a high mileage oil in a scooter with 1000 miles on it?

There's no harm. Think of it as preventative maintenance for any oil leaks. All motor oil contains seal conditioners, high mileage oils simply have a higher treat rate, roughly double from what I've gathered over the years

My ? is why the need for a 5 quart jug. No issue with the oil working
Tried looking at Schaffers products? I am going to have to take stock of my oil for the bikes next week when the temps get warm

I prefer the 5 quart jugs as they are almost always the cheapest way to get oil. Its a pretty cheap scooter (not Chinese cheap) but it is air cooled. That's why i want to run synthetic but don't want to spend a ton.

Almost always the most expensive way to get oil here. Chinese logic: "You buy much oil, you must to have many money"

Oh dear, I'm quite the gin-sodden expatriate this morning.

How about the gear oil for the final drive?

Easy to get it in little 100 mls or so squirty tubes here, where there is a sea of scooters, but I'd guess would mostly be in bigger packages in the US? You won't need it very often, though.

Mobil 1 will be fine, as will any of the 5w40 Diesel oils. You won't have to worry nearly as much about shear in your engine since it is a non shared sump. No transmission gears to chew up the oil.

I have also considered T6 as that is a pretty popular option in many motorcycles. My thought was that this little high revving air cooled engine will be beating up the oil pretty bad and the 10w40 will be a little more shear stable. Also the viscocity at 100c for mobil 1 HM is around 16cst while T6 is only 14cst.
