A little while ago I went on a short trip hauling a covered trailer with quads. It worked my F150 with the 5.0 a little bit at highway speeds, but the truck performed well. Following the trip, I hav noticed my average MPG has increased by a full 2 MPG. My driving habits are the same. Is an “Italian tune up” an actual viable option for cleaning and thus increasing MPG?

The engine computer and transmission control module had to learn to cope with the additional load more efficiently. Give it like ~70 miles or so, and things will go back to normal.

Unless you've been tracking for multiple tanks, you can't read much into this. There's too many variables that affect fuel mileage. Just the fact that you're more aware of it can subconsciously affect the way you drive. The pump in your previous couple of fillup's could have shutoff inconsistently, etc.
