any hemi ram owners out there? mpg question

Just curious what kind of mileage anyone might be avergaging with their 5.7 rams? I currently own an '11 4x4 quad cab. As I type, it has 18023 clicks on the odo. My truck has a Volant intake on it with the Dolnaldosn honey comb looking filter, and has been filled with Amsoil Signature 0w20 since new, and has amsoil 75w90 severe gear lube in the front, and the same but in 75w140 in the rear. I have the transfer case with 2wd,4wd auto,4wd lock, and 4wd low (can't remeber which case that is). Factory atf and tcase fluid. In the warm months I've had as good as 19.8 on the hwy, 17ish overall. With the >32deg temps we have been seeing here, I'm down to 15.6 overall according to the dash computer. Pretty good decrease. I know that the colder temps hut my mpg, and I'm sure the volant intake doesn't help any with the big rush of cold air the engine is seeing.

I wanted to see what others might be seeing? And also what the sweet spot for mpg cruising speed has ben on the hwy. I drive about 65 miles round trip per day, with 95% hwy. I was thinking about purchasing a Diablosport Trinity tuner for it. It has tune options for both power and economy using different fuel types, but what was thatthat it offers a MPG boost tune and was hoping that I could pick up a couple mpre mpgs with it. Haven't been able to find much feedback about the results people have seen with I. Just an idea...

I cannot comment on the truck, but I can comment on drastic MPG drop in the winter.

I do not always calculate my tanks and haven't for some time, but I have lost around 100KM of range out of my tanks starting in the cooler months like November and later.

Your drop in MPG sounds a bit more drastic than mine, but I can tell you that the drop in MPG is very real this time of year. I live in the same climate as you as well.

Wanna hear about a 4.7? I only WISH I had a Hemi

Mine's an 08 4x2, so its not directly comparable. Best MPG is in winter (no A/C) highway cruising- I've seen 22 mpg average on a run from Austin to Biloxi twice now. Note that my "winter" is nothing like yours- highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s. More common is 19-21 highway with the air on in the summer. In-town I average 15.5 to 16. In talking with a few Hemi/MDS owners in this are, they see almost exactly the same thing, maybe a little better if they drive so the MDS can work more often. I like the 4.7 fine, but I really don't see why its still around. The Hemi 5.7 produces 80 more horsepower, a boatload more torque off the line, and the same fuel efficiency if you don't stick your foot in it all the time.

I've also experimented with E85 around town since the 4.7 is a flex-fuel engine. It doesn't pay off. It may be 30 cents/gallon cheaper, but it drops my city average mileage from 15.5 down to 13, which at current prices makes E85 cost about 1 cent/mile more than E10.

Your doing alot better than me, i get 17 to 18 on hwy, end up averaging in the high 14s. Probably a poor comparison, mine being alot older, it lacks the cylinder deactivation.

I avg around probably 14 or 15mpg. 17-19mpg for straight highway. about 9-11mpg towing

I have a 2010. Intake, cat back exhaust with Y-pipe opened up too, no tuner. 17" wheels, 3.92 gears. I get mid-14's around town running 91 (we have no 89 here just 85 and 87). On the highway I get around 16-18 but I travel lots of two lane roads and do a lot of foot to the floor passing, along with lots of mountain grades.

I've gotten over 20 (once over 22!) a few times with a strong tail wind, sweet spot is between 65-75 with the cruise on for mileage.

Winter fuel and longer warm up times took me down around 1/2 to 1 MPG all around.

I've had mine less than 2 months. For daily commuting, I've only been getting 12-13. It should get better once the winter gas is gone, and once I have about 5k miles. Mine is a crew cab with 2wd/4x4 high/4x4 low, 3.92 anti-spin, LT Load Range E AT tires.

Yeah, if those are really your( OP )numbers that is just about as good as it gets for a Ram with the HEMI. I did much betetr than 14-15 in my 2 Silverados though.

I had an 04 and 08 HEMI Ram so not really going to help as you have the newer 4th gen Ram with the newer 5.7L (390HP vs 345HP in mine ).

FWIW I saw 12-14 average and 16-17 Higwhay pretty much in my 2 Rams w/ the 5.7L. Best ever in the 04 was 20.2 MPG ( all highway )and in the 08 it was 18.9 MPG ( all highway ). The 04 had a Volant Intake and RP everywhere( 5W30 for oil )while the 08 had a stock air box setup and RP everywhere( 5W20 for oil )but trans. Both trucks had hard tonneau covers. The 04 had 17's and the 08 had 20's. 08 had MDS too.

Funny, that. We own several 5.3's in Silverados and I routinely get 17 in the city with mine on good fuel. Winter fuel will kill that to 15-16, but it is FAR better than I got on my RAM I owned! Our trucks are far lighter than a newer RAM.

Note that with the proper gear the Silver has no problem keeping up with any RAM except the newest models with the 390 hp Hemi. And even those just beat it by a bit.
