The pattern of consumption was down 1/2 qt at about 500 miles, down a full quart at around 1k miles. Prior to going on my road trip, I was 650 miles into the OCI with no apparent consumption. The night before leaving, I replaced the spark plugs with NGK Iridium plugs. The old plugs were way out of gap, .075. The specified gap is .050. That is the only variable that changed.
