In previous posts, I documented how my 2009 Chrysler T&C is consuming oil at the rate of 1qt/1k miles. Dodge/Chrysler considers this normal. I have used Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Ultra and Mobil 1. Ultra did seem to cut the consumption slightly compared to the others. This OCI, I used Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage that I had in my stash because I bought it on clearance. Consumption thus far was about 8/10ths of a quart in 2200 miles. I am pleased with the results. I went ahead and added one quart. Top off oil was Mobil Super High Mileage 5w30.

The next OCI, I may give Maxlife High Mileage Syn Blend a try because of the price difference. I really didn't think I would find an oil that would cut consumption that drastically. I will continue to monitor and update. Hopefully this wasn't a fluke. I just returned from a 1300 mile round trip. Highway miles didn't seem to make a difference before.

Some suggest that changing brands from one OCI to the next can result in consumption due to variations in formulations so I would try an oil for two OCI before making a judgment on it's effectiveness in reducing consumption.

80% of a quart, neato!

Stick with the Mobil 1 High Mileage if it's working for you. I may have to try that in my parents 05 GC with the 3.8. It's burned oil from day one.

Agreed. I did a couple of OCIs with Pennzoil Platinum, but I went to an 0w30 on the second OCI for winter. Will stick to the same regimen to eliminate too mny variables.

0.8 of a quart; Fantastic!

i just traded off my 05 GC, 184k miles. consumption on it was not as bad as the T&C. Penns Platinm reduced consumption on the GC, but not on the T&C.

I've tried several brands in our 3.8 oil burner, including Super-S HM and Maxlife. Nothing has made much difference. Maybe I'll have to try the Mobil 1 High Mileage. Thanks for the post.

153.6 teaspoons.
Outstanding.

Stick with the Mobil 1 High Mileage if possible. The 5 qt containers at Walmart are not all that much more than the max life. If it ain't broke don't fix it

4/5ths is supposed to be the same as 8/10ths but it seems like more for some reason.

Darned 3.8s,had everyone got the 3.3 instead (yes,I know...less hp) this wouldn't be so prevalent.

What's interesting is that High Mileage oils generally don't work that quickly. Usually they take a few OCIs before you start seeing their benefits, so there might be something else at play here. Either way, stick with the High Mileage oil if it seems to be working for you.

Pennzoil has printable coupons on their site for $5 off 5 qt jugs of PP - including PP High Mileage and even Ultra. You can use them at checkout - no rebate. The promotion runs through May 31 - I printed two coupons yesterday - they expire April 22.

I have used Pennzoil High Mileage conventional in my sons 2003 Monte Carlo SS 3800 V6 and his consumption is now down to less then 1 quart every 4000 miles... I did use one bottle of MOS in one Pennzoil High Mileage conventional OCI... I have used Defy and Mobil 1 High Mileage and they did not help with oil consumption or even slow leaks.
