High Mileage Change

If putting HM in younger cars would hurt them better believe the oil companys lawyers would have a disclaimer on that container to protect themselves. YMMV and CYA

I did not say it hurts the car. The question is if you are going to change a parameter in an engineering system better know FIRST the objectives, then the pros and cone! We all want the next best oil for our ride.
Now if he feels better with a thicker oil and MORE seal conditioner...

Switch to the High Mileage oil. Better to prevent than try and put a band-aid on it once it starts leaking. I switched to High Mileage at 75,000miles on my truck and now at 145k no leaks and no burning. I'm pretty happy with that considering I drive it like a race car.


This. I just put Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 0w20 in my Odyssey. I hadn't seen any leaks but with 100k on it I figured it's not gonna hurt anything.

Exactly. If it's an older spec or lacks a spec, which does happen with some high mileage oils, then one might be well served to pay attention. But, an SN/GF-5 High Mileage oil is just as certified as a non-High Mileage SN/GF-5. If your engine calls for SN/GF-5 in a certain viscosity, and that's what's on the bottle, you're good to go. MaxLife having been dexos1 means it was perfectly acceptable for a new GM vehicle, too.
