In the past I was able to buy an additive to "make any oil a high mileage oil". I cannot find it anymore, which leads to the question.
Why do oil manufacturers make whole extra product lines of oil labeled as high mileage, when they could just market an additive that could be added to any oil. My favorite oil PU apparently does not have a high mileage oil but I can get a high mileage oil in their lower quality motor oils. I'm torn, I want PU but I also want the high mileage stuff.

Because of cost...

all they have to do is add couple of % of the additive, and boom charge you a few bucks.

for additive selling , they have to package it ( order plastic , create it ) market it seperatly...

its alot more costly for them...

They have to do all that already. PYB, PHM. I believe this is the same oil with the additive, but a whole different bottle, label, marketing etc. With shelf space at the retailers being hard to get/keep, why wouldn't a small bottle of additive which could cover every product make more sense then large oil containers with just a little different formula, and not available in all product lines. No HM in PU. With an additive I could have a HM PU.

HM oils generally have more seal conditioners for engines that have been neglected and may have poor seals. They do work.

Does it? Does it swell seals or a differen action? Some people seem to develop leaks with synthetics, is PU different?

It is not advertised as a HM oil?

What are you putting this in that it needs a HM oil? I don't use any HM oils...but at 239,000...I don't think my 4 Runner is high mileage...yet...

Theres a company called puratech that makes a hm add. It costs about 3 bucks and from what I can tell it is just stp.
