putting this in computers because it is a computer accessory and not a standalone personal electronic device... Looking to scan some old photos and film negatives to the highest quality. Looking for recommendations to do both.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

There are dedicated scanners for negatives/slides. They're often much better quality than the big multi-use scanners, and can easily be put in a drawer when you're not using them.

Have you considered one of those services that scans photos for you? Their equipment is often very high-end. Expensive, yes, but you aren't footing the bill for a scanner, nor are you spending tons of time.

I've only had cheapo canon scanners. Seems high end would be something like the epson perfection v600 in the $200 range or v700 $650 range or v750-m $800 range. Not familiar with plustek but they do have some film scanners.

The Epson V700 is a great scanner. It will scan prints really well and will scan negatives and slides. Nikon used to make great scanners for scanning negatives and slides but the last operating system that supported those scanners was Vista I think. And Apple 10.4 Tiger I think.

for the best film scanner it needs to shine the light through to the sensor.

normal flatbeds wont work the greatest.

The best bargain IMHO is the Epson V600.

For the price, the hardware/software combo is hard to beat for restoring/correcting photos and slides. Very capable. If you have an older/slower CPU, processing images can take awhile.

V700 is great, but hard to justify its featureset/price ratio for a non pro user.

Ck out Canon offerings to.
