Digital storage of old photos. Help me

After reading this thread I now know I am right (for me) in what I am doing. Selecting a few photos from each year and printing them.
They will last 100 years. I'll be lucky to last 20 (gulp) Down the road if kids, or their kids want to they can digitized them into something reliable. I KNOW they will not want the 1000s of digital images I have now. Even a 100 or so prints is more than enough.

Works until you have a fire or flood (me) unless you keep them off site which is an inconvenience.

I agree with that but not concerned. It's not like I am going to delete everything I print out, nor will I be too upset if I lose my house as I will be more upset about the house but I dont worry about those things, 6 decades now, never knew anyone who lost a house yet anywhere in the USA or overseas family. Back to the first part, the photos would still be in the cloud in the very worst of a situation that will never happen to me.

Use mechanical hard drives for long term storage. Flash media like USB drives will lose data when not powered on for long periods. I keep 3 copies of everything using 3 external hard drives. 2 drives are stored in our home and the third is stored offsite at the in-laws. Verify backups periodically and spin up the hard drives at least once a year to exercise them.
