HF and Pittsburgh branded tools

I am in the process of treating my house for termites. I had to drill about 30 holes in the concrete in front of my garage, walkway to the front door and on my back patio so I could pump termiticide down in the ground below the concrete surfaces. I needed a hammer drill to drill the holes. I could have rented one at Home Depot for $60.00 for 4 hours. They rent Makita hammer drills there.

I thought about it and checked out HF. They have this hammer drill for $31.99:

The drill may not be a professional quality, use-it-every-day-on-the-jobsite tool, but it does have some excellent reviews on the HF web site. I used a 20% off coupon and paid only $26.00 for the drill. I finished drilling the holes today and am done with that part of the termite job. That HF drill powered through the concrete with no trouble at all. I used a 1/2" Bosch Blue concrete drill bit. The drill did get hot but still kept running fine. I was thinking to myself today "this thing will make a man out of you." And it will. It has great power if needed and it really blasted its way through the concrete.

I say this to point out I could have spent twice as much money to rent a drill for only 4 hours. I own the HF drill and worked at my own pace. It seems to be a good tool and may come in handy again some time.

I have a HF electric 1/2" impact wrench I bought about 5 years ago. It works fine too, I just use it to bust lug nuts loose here at home. I doubt it would hold up in a professional environment but it has done a fine job for how I use it. I bought a HF floor jack the same day I bought the impact wrench and the floor jack has worked flawlessly since the day I got it.

Some HF tools are not good. Some are OK, some break the first time you use them. When I bought that hammer drill I first took it out of the box and took it into the customer bathroom at the store to plug it in and be sure it worked. It did. The bathroom was the only place I could find a working electrical outlet. I guess I am lucky they didn't hassle me about theft, but I wanted to be sure it worked before heading 25 miles back home.

Point is, most HF tools are good. I try to buy American whenever I can but sometimes I have to just get over the country of origin. That goes for tools, car parts, most anything nowadays. The pump sprayer I bought to use in my termite job is made in the USA and works like a champ. You also have to be very careful with what you buy in electric HF/Pittsburgh tools. HF tools usually work just fine for me here at home. Their hand tools have come a long way in quality, even if they are not made in the USA.

I've been using HF's impact sockets at work as my primary set with good results. Also using some of their deep chrome sockets and ratchet wrenches. They are holding up well so far. Most of the other things they sell aren't as good.
I work with lots of "permanent borrowers", so price is a factor in my work tools.

Good for you taking the endless hours of stalking and digging through other peoples junk to find gems like that, but i'll be [censored] if i'm not going to take advantage of HF's cheap cost, and accessibility. I frankly dont care if a hand tool breaks in my hand (yes power tools is a different story) if all it takes is another minor road trip to replace it.
