Not sure about what to call what, but here goes. A short while ago, this rubber fitting (that helps keep the prop that holds the hood on my Sienna up, secure against the frame of the car) came loose. Now the prop will still hold the hood up--it will fit into the small hole in the chassis, where it is supposed to fit--but I'd prefer the additional security of having the rubber fitting, sitting nice and tight, instead of being loose. I couldn't find this on the rockauto website, and I know better than to email them. So I'm asking you: (1) what is this called, and more to the point, (2) should I just glue this in, or does the rubber simply fit tightly around both sides of the hole in the metal—in that case, should I just buy a new one and push it in tightly?

what year sienna? You can usually find an exploded drawing on a toyota site that will give you the name and toyota OEM number.

I've replaced that on my 99 Sienna and it is not glued in, the presence of the prop rod when inserted helps to keep it in place.

I'd buy a new holder clip while you're at it, that will be the next thing to crack if it hasn't already.

Hmmm... some folks online are talking about a u clip when installing these--evidently, on the other side of the hole, to keep this grommet in place? That comes from toyota forums, not sure if that is a different unit than the one I have. Well if I order it from my local dealer, and it comes with a u clip, I'll know I need it. Perhaps I can ask the parts guy when I order it. Since this is a 3 dollar part, it would probably be worth overpaying a bit by buying from them, if I'm not sure.

Just to be clear, you are talking about part #14 in the diagram linked to above--and that is what the prop rod rests on when the hood is down?

It looks like it.

The rod doesn't "rest on" it as much as it clips into it so it doesn't flop around. This seems like a picture of both of them:

OK, thanks for the tip, I'll order replacements for both if I have to pay shipping. If not, I'll just replace what I need to do, now. Yeah, "clips into it" is a better term...

...or it could be a batch made from cheaper plastic pellets or mixed plastic pellets as the dies for one part were swapped out to make the parts in question.

I'm going with KGMtech's interpretation.

Picked it up today, as was said above, it pushed in without a clip. It bent no more than the old one, though, which made me wonder why the old one failed.... Oh well for $3.77 plus tax I can't complain about a part that lasted 14 years.
