I have a 2002 Kia Sportage with 84k. I used Pennzoil Conventional and Kia OEM filter. checked the oil it was a little low. Inside of the oil cap was light brown. I checked the dipstick and the oil looks fine. NO BLOWN HEAD GASKET (hopefully) I stuck my finger inside of the actual motor and I had gunk or sludge on my finger. The motor runs fine otherwise. Any suggestions?

Yes I drive 3 miles to work and 3 miles back lol. I was reading during the winter if you drive short trips moisture will build up and it's normal for the oil cap to look like that. The dipstick looks perfectly fine otherwise. The sludge kind of worries me. I just wonder is Pennzoil conventional working that good?

I would guess it's just condensation. The 5.4L in my Ford get's it sometimes if I use my wife's car for work. If you went a 1/2 hour+ highway drive, I'd bet it would clear up.

Under these conditions your probably going to get this no matter what brand of oil you use conventional or synthetic especially in the colder months.

This is likely.

DO NOT add MMO to your engine, it doesn't need it. Just a decent quality oil that meets KIAs specs.
