I got home from taking my wife’s car to the grocery store, and she said she had a surprise for me. She heard me say that I needed to get the rust under my truck off, and so why I was gone she got under there and sprayed WD-40. Now, this isn’t so bad, but then she said, “Your brakes looked really rusty too, so I sprayed them down”!!!!!!

Please, tell me my brakes are not in trouble!

Take the car out and stomp on the brakes a couple of times. Those pads are good at keeping the disc's clean. Then let your wife make it up to you, somehow or other.

If it were me i'd hose em down, drive around town until you feel confident in them, take the car to the wash (get the undercarriage wash) take the car for a trip until they feel normal, then tell the wife you want steak and tails for dinner

It sounds a bit far-fetched.

I have this 'friend' that put three bottles of STP oil treatment in his engine. I... um... he was wondering if this will hurt anything. Thanks- I'll um... let him know.

Uh, no, I didn’t do it, and then get on here and ask, thank you. My wife thought she was helping. I use WD-40 on many things it works great. Anyway, she only sprayed a quick mist. I got under there and rinsed with a water hose, wiped, and then rinsed again. I took it for a drive, and they seem to work fine, but it really threw a scare into me that’s for sure.

Your favorite brand of brake cleaner (clorinated preferably) will take off any residual WD-40 even if it got on your pads. If brake cleaner can wash off brake fluid that has gotten on pads it will easily handle the WD-40.

Brakekleen spray will clean them no problem......then take her in the kitchen after the kids are in bed and give her the Aunt Jemima treatment...

I wouldn't sweat it at all. You brakes get worse stuff thrown on them from normal driving. Gotta commend the Missus for her concern though!

Your wife. She crawled under your car. And started spraying WD-40 more or less at random.

That is one of the weirder things I've read here.

I agree.

I don't think something like that would ever cross my wifes mind.

WD 40 is light, and disappears quickly, even where you want it to stay.
I'd drive it and test it until you are sure it's back to normal, and OK. It won't take long.
I wouldn't take anything apart, at this point.

Your wife sounds like a keeper. When she's done with the WD40 and finishes washing an waxing the cars and rotating the tires and the oil changes and cutting the grass is she careful not to wake you up from your nap, when she comes in the house to do the laundry and wash the dishes?
