I thought I entered proxy info correctly (using Windows 11), but proxy test site says none is detected. Any suggestions?

In the screenshot is my proxy info that I entered manually into Windows network settings.

Proxy connections are typically written as proxy IP number colon port number.

The port number is 3128 not 8080.

Remove the colon and 3128 from the left field and type 3128 into the right field.

Just curious, what is this for ? The proxy service that you're using should have detailed, step-by-step instructions.

Did that. Do I need to restart the computer, or would that be instantaneous?

I went to https://www.whatismyip.com/proxy-check/ and it still says I am not using a proxy.
Generally speaking you do not have to reboot after changing the proxy setting but there could be situations where it's required.

What's the source for this proxy server? if you got it from a list it may not be current and no longer functional.

Got the numbers off the internet and while back, that's probably it.

After you put the proxy settings in, did you see the SAVE button below? It's easy to overlook. Without saving the changed settings they don't go into effect.

A proxy server may not work on all websites, for example on Google, or with https.

I put your proxy server in my W10 pc and it worked but it didn't work for every site I tried. I went on the Nord VPN site to confirm a change in IP which checked out.

These sites should list currently working proxy servers:

I use OpenDNS for my DNS services, rather than using the default ISP. Would that be an issue here?

I just entered some numbers from one of the sites listed above, but I was still not using a proxy. So it has me thinking that there is something going on in my laptop or setup somewhere, that isn't quite right.

And yes, I have been using the Save button.

I don't think so but you could try another DNS server.

I don't know. I avoid using proxy servers and resort to them only on occasion when traveling. They are often finicky and unreliable and it may take several attempts to find one that works. Why your PC seemingly refuses to use the proxy server is unclear to me. Maybe it's a firewall issue. One of the computer aces here should be able to figure it out.

I don't have a firewall--or I use whatever firewall Windows uses by default.

OK I'll try another DNS server, and then report back. Below are the new numbers I entered, from one of the links above. Now I inserted the ":3343" at the end of the Proxy IP Address field. Does that belong there? I inserted it because that was what was done with the first Proxy IP that I entered.

The proxy IP address is 67.43.228.251 . Remove the colon and the port number 3343 from the IP entry. You already have the port number in the right field.

Also, check Don't use the proxy server for local (intranet) addresses.

I am going to disable my OpenDNS settings. I just want to make sure that I am removing the correct numbers. I have a linksys router, this is inside my router webUI. Do I remove the StaticDNS 1 & 2? 3 also? Or are these not the correct settings to tweak?

Thanks, did that, still didn't work. When I do that (remove the colon....etc.) even though my laptop says it is online (In the system tray, I have the wifi network symbol indicating I'm online), my browser won't load any page, until I remove the proxy settings.

So I think I have to remove the DNS settings also.

I would only change DNS 1 which is the primary DNS.

Well removing my OpenDNS settings didn't do anything--I still can't get online when using the proxy settings.

OK well that's that. I was hoping to get a proxy enabled, but I'm not willing to troubleshoot this all night long. Gave it a shot.

Thanks vavavroom and Hall, anyways.
