Help me pick a new car

This Acura continues to disappoint, Carmax is offering $27k on a $38k car that's one year old with 4,500 miles on it. Not a loss I'm willing to take, I'll deal with it for another year and see where things are at that time. I haven't had a car depreciate like that post 2010. This is hands down the most disappointing car I've ever purchased.
Disappointing why? Its resale value? You didnt think it was an investment did you?

I have a friend with a 2022 Civic, its ok, but I really hate the nanny steering intervention if I didnt have the blinkers on. It was also too short for me, but I'll give it credit that it is nothing like the tin can 2004 Civic I was last in.

I guess a video I watched about a lady's new Jeep Cherokee being in the shop more than her driving it had some influence. Jeeps aren't known for reliability or fuel mileage. I bet most jeeps get just slightly better mileage than my truck with a 460 engine.12 versus 16ish. I would put the Lexus as being at least twice as reliable as any Jeep. You know what they say about opinions. I drive a minivan and everyone seems to hate them with a passion and I think it's an okay vehicle. If you gave me a German car I would just turn around and sell it. Like Harley's German cars are usually owned by people trying to impress others. Buy and drive whatever makes you happy or that you can afford. Keep in mind how much time you want to spend at the dealer and have a tow package. My sister worked at a German car dealership doing warranty work on the computer, so I have heard some stories. May all of your cars be trouble-free.
Sadly, my Wrangler is a real gas guzzler- fuel economy ranges from 50 mpg to 100 mpg. My BMWs and Mercedes see the dealer no more than every 12 months. None have ever been towed with the exception of the C43 that popped a tire on a pothole. Regular BITOG members know to disregard my experience with German vehicles as I have only owned 14 over the past 40 years- and they know that the only true experts are people who have yet to even sit in a BMW or M-B.

Tonight wasn't good, one of the washing machine hoses decided to spring a leak despite only being two years old, so dealing with that involved a trip to Home Depot. On the way back the infotainment system in the Integra decided to have one of it's usual meltdowns where it takes 10 minutes to boot. In the meantime, every rattle this car exhibits also decided to make an appearance. B pillar right by your ear, A pillar. At that point I decided I hate this car and I want it out of my life. Other than lousy build quality, the ride height is way too low for my taste. My short list for you to critique -

Buick Envision - had a rental I loved
Polestar 2 - had a rental I loved
Lexus ES350 - I've never driven but seems like a good value
Ford Maverick - I've never driven but seems like a good value
Grand Cherokee 4Xe - I've rented the gas version and loved it. Electric range is perfect for the short drives we take
Wrangler 4Xe - I've rented the gas version and loved it. Electric range is perfect for the short drives we take
The maverick is awesome but the interest rates are high. I will tell you the ford Edge has same engine and trans, rides way better, is tried and true and in its last year of production. They have great rebates and very low interest rates. if you like smaller vehicles you can get the ford escape with the same engine and trans too. escape also comes in hybrid if you want 42 mpg. just thought id help.

The Japanese have a reputation of reliability for a reason and resale values proves it.
And yet of the minivans we test drove (all of them) the Sienna was the biggest rattle trap of a vehicle I ever had the displeasure of driving while having the highest cost.

People do not generally post about their vehicles NOT having any problems.

This car is just on a roll with me, I was pulling into a parking spot at Target tonight and the FCW went off. Got back to the house and took my seat belt off as I waited for the garage door to open and it put the parking brake on.

Just get a Ram 1500 Classic, Tradesman trim with whatever options you do want. Can’t break what ain’t there! 😉

I’ll sell you my minivan for what I owe on it. Just remember that in garage door vs tailgate fight will result in the garage door winning, but unlike @edyvw ’s Sienna it’ll still shut properly because it isn’t made of beer cans.

What ever it is, do the research about all the possible problems it can have.
Does it have a famous modern crap engine or transmission?
Stay away from CVT's. Mazda is the only one to trust with that.
Hyundai and Kia, not a good choice. They are the top stolen cars in this area, and I suppose elsewhere too.
If it comes with a huge battery, make sure to park it 100 feet from your home when charging it.
Make sure it has a 50 year warranty.

I must not be an expert either IMG_20231217_093544528.jpg
And there's 2 more German cars outside...

Edit: i forgot the Mercedes van. There's 3 more German cars outside...

I find that keeps me from buying. I do a google search for the vehicle I’m looking at, searching “vehicle problems’ and usually the list that comes up keeps me from going further.

I swear, every car I’ve done research on has some issue or another. It’s like none of them are perfect, I just don’t understand.

Why not a Palisades?

My RAV4 has been flawless. My Camry needed a replacement blower fan and water pump. Not great but I have high expectations for Toyota reliability.

I drove 240 miles yesterday. If i went EV, I'd need 300 mile range to feel comfortable.
What year/engine Camry?

Yeah, my wife was complaining about the HVAC fan in her '2011 Camry around the 220kmile mark. I tried to take it apart to see if I could oil it, no go. Swapped that, and the idler pulley on one of the serpentines around that time. And the rear swaybar bushings (not end links) had been clunking for quite some time. Wrecked shortly thereafter, but I swear, the motor mounts, struts and exhaust were all shot after only 11 years and 230k. Not a good vehicle for long life, as a result I don't plan to own our current Camry for too long.

Did you lease the Integra? Since that complicates things a bit.
